Mesa Rectifier 4x12 & Marshall 1960AV users

I used to have the Stiletto traditional cab, but sold it for a Rectifier oversized (which I had to sell a couple of years back unfortunately), and never once looked look back - huge sound improvement in favor of the oversized; the traditional felt stuffy and overly dense around 400 Hz, not a fan

Btw, they're back to calling it the Rectifier traditional again

Depends on your perspective, I find the rectos hollow and harsh, its definitely a case of YMMV.

To me the Marshall sounds more vibey to be honest and less generic. Mesa sounds very scooped here. Did you change the amp settings? If you'd use less mids on the Marshall and a broad cut at around 800Hz it fit better into the mix as well. The Marshall is a couple dbs louder as well...

Yes I agree, Marshall cuts better in the mix but doesn't sound very full to me and the tone is very dirty if you hear close. I'm not happy yet with the results I get using the mesa cab (I tried 5150 KsE settings & 808 as a clean boost). It's true that the sound is very scooped, next time I'll increase the presence and the mids. Anyway, I like how the amp sounds in the room. Is there any way to get more mids with the mic position?

Move more outward away from the dustcab - but watch your lowend. It becomes muddy and mushy easily...dial in more mids from the amp obviously...

Ive been struggling with all this for a long time with Guitar cabinets and just ordered a new Recto Slant. I'm selling my older rear loaded bogner ubercab. I think with the 5150 the Mesa is what I need. I hope I don't regret selling the uber.

I think the Mesa sounds better, but its level is lower than the Marshall. It is a bit lax in a certain mid freq, but I can't say that it's a bad thing in this case. If you want a more midrangey tone from the Mesa cab, mic the spot where the cone begins and juice the presence knob on the amp, lowering the treble and mids controls as necessary.
