I've been reading all of djairouks posts over and over again. None of the replies. And what it seems like to me, is that he really doesn't *know* what he's looking for. I think he just wants a new sound in general.
My opinion is that you don't really know how to eq an amp correctly for playing with a drummer.
I tried the settings you posted on my Dual Recto. Now, I have a lot of guitars at my disposal here at the studio.Gibson LP Custom with EMG's, Gibson LP Standard/Studio with passive, LTD EC-1000 with EMG's, Jackson SL-2 with EMG's, Schecter Hellraiser C7 with EMG's, Jackson SL-1 with passives, Ibanez JEM7VWH with passives, Ibanez Universe UV777 with passives, Ibanez RG Prestige with EMG's, ESP Eclipse custom shop with passives...a lot of nice guitars, and those settings sounded horrible when I played it with some drums we recorded the other day on ALL of them. By itself, it was kinda cool. But with the drums and bass guitar it was lost in an instant. The mics and preamps we use don't color the sound much, if at all...so what I heard through those monitors is exactly what the cab sounded like in the room. It sounded like crap with drums and a bass guitar in the mix. Even after I did post eq'ing to the mic'ed signal. Just bad.
You need to turn the gain DOWN. Holy. Shit. That is way too much gain to be using. You are complaining about how it's too trebly and the bottom end is not defined...dude, there is like no clarity whatsoever at that point when you have the gain almost ALL THE WAY UP. Most metal albums you listen to I gaurantee the gain wasn't much past 12 or 1 o'clock. And you need to learn what the mid knob is for.
Honestly, I think you need to spend an entire DAY just messing with your amp and your drummer. Just sit there and turn all of the knobs to 12 o'clock or 5. Even eq'ing. Then go from there. Try everything. Literally, even if you don't think it's suppose to be that way, turn the knob anyway. You want tighter bass? Do a clean boost. Get an Ibanez TS9 or a Maxon OD02 or something, put it in front of your amp, turn the gain on the amp to 12:00 and then mess with the pedal. The bass WILL tighten up, your sound will be MUCH more clear, and it will cut through with a drummer much easier than before. I promise you. We're talking +/-$100 on eBay and you're tone search is over. Instead of selling an amp, possibly dealing with shipping hassles, buying a new one, getting use to that one all over again, not liking it, bla bla bla.
