mesa rectifier vs peavey 6505

yes i never saw this brand an even kranks are really impossible to have here in switzerland

Well Splawn sells direct from their shop, so ordering from them should be no problem. Check out their clips - the amps are very modded-marshall sounding and may not be your thing, but the clips on their site do not lie.

yes i agree with you i found 2 big shop where i can try all these

Ampeg • Ashdown • Crate • EBS • Engl • Fender • Framus • Gallien & Krüger • Gibson • Hartke • Hughes & Kettner • Line 6 • MarkBass • Marshall • Mesa Boogie • Music Man • Orange • Peavey • Rocktron • SWR • Tech 21 • Trace Elliot • Vox • Yamaha • Yorkville, randall and diezel

but you see i ask this to have a litlle idea because it'll take me day without knowing a bit where to go

I've been reading all of djairouks posts over and over again. None of the replies. And what it seems like to me, is that he really doesn't *know* what he's looking for. I think he just wants a new sound in general.

My opinion is that you don't really know how to eq an amp correctly for playing with a drummer.

I tried the settings you posted on my Dual Recto. Now, I have a lot of guitars at my disposal here at the studio.Gibson LP Custom with EMG's, Gibson LP Standard/Studio with passive, LTD EC-1000 with EMG's, Jackson SL-2 with EMG's, Schecter Hellraiser C7 with EMG's, Jackson SL-1 with passives, Ibanez JEM7VWH with passives, Ibanez Universe UV777 with passives, Ibanez RG Prestige with EMG's, ESP Eclipse custom shop with passives...a lot of nice guitars, and those settings sounded horrible when I played it with some drums we recorded the other day on ALL of them. By itself, it was kinda cool. But with the drums and bass guitar it was lost in an instant. The mics and preamps we use don't color the sound much, if at all...so what I heard through those monitors is exactly what the cab sounded like in the room. It sounded like crap with drums and a bass guitar in the mix. Even after I did post eq'ing to the mic'ed signal. Just bad.

You need to turn the gain DOWN. Holy. Shit. That is way too much gain to be using. You are complaining about how it's too trebly and the bottom end is not defined...dude, there is like no clarity whatsoever at that point when you have the gain almost ALL THE WAY UP. Most metal albums you listen to I gaurantee the gain wasn't much past 12 or 1 o'clock. And you need to learn what the mid knob is for.

Honestly, I think you need to spend an entire DAY just messing with your amp and your drummer. Just sit there and turn all of the knobs to 12 o'clock or 5. Even eq'ing. Then go from there. Try everything. Literally, even if you don't think it's suppose to be that way, turn the knob anyway. You want tighter bass? Do a clean boost. Get an Ibanez TS9 or a Maxon OD02 or something, put it in front of your amp, turn the gain on the amp to 12:00 and then mess with the pedal. The bass WILL tighten up, your sound will be MUCH more clear, and it will cut through with a drummer much easier than before. I promise you. We're talking +/-$100 on eBay and you're tone search is over. Instead of selling an amp, possibly dealing with shipping hassles, buying a new one, getting use to that one all over again, not liking it, bla bla bla.

well maybe my i have a material problem because i have also recorded with drums and it's not at all crappy though the engineer turned down some bass i don't mean that you don't know what you are saying because you have a studio and i heard samples of your work which are really great.

but i'll try to record a bit of guitar and drums to show you because i'm playing the recto since 4 years and it's always been like that

Djairouks, I didn't intend to sound mean or anything, it's just I think you could spend a little more time actually messing with the EQ on the amp.

Also, the cabinet IMO has a lot to do with your tone. A matching Mesa 4x12 with V30's would probably make you marry that Recto. Just a thought...

the volume is a litlle bit louder but not that much the definition of each string is way better when playing chords more sustain and better attack

you're gonna think i'm crazy no ?
they are passive custom kent armstrong the bridge one is called the OTT
for over the top and only sold to the luthier who made my guitar

one thing about boogies, you have to wind them up loud to get the mid range rockin, but I bet that pick up is a large part of the prob, the cab being another . You're just assuming its the amp, but on the latest AE you're hearing boogie as well as Krank. I can dial a 5150 in so close to a boogie. Before you start shelling out the cash, try a boogie cab and also another gtr (and turn the bass down...just a tip)

well thanks a lot my jaw dropped :OMG: when you said that there was a boogie on doomsday machine i never thaught that possible

i've been sneapafied :worship:
i'm gona try this right now but sorry i won't change my guitar it's a custom built only for me a unique piece

i don't think it's the guitar before this one i had an esp kirk hammet with emg 81's and the sound improved a lot with the new guitar

and since i've been even more perfectionist with the sound

but million thanks to you it makes me all sweaty to speak to the best mixer in the world

" I can dial a 5150 in so close to a boogie. "

:) would you mind getting slightly more into detail? ;)

ah, and Brett - K A L I S I A......well, it says location: france ;)

mr sneap

the sound i'm looking for is savage like the rythms in savage messiah but with a bit of more bass but a focused bass

if you have any other tips
but don't spoil any secret i don't want to copy AE it'd just be nice
do you think i can achieve that with my recto

:p i hope i don't ask too much i don't want to upset anyone especially you

I would suggest changing out your tubes before making such a big change. I'm a big fan of exploring your options with what you have before taking a big leap like you're considering. You just might give away something that could of been the best thing for you.

Also note that the rectos have a great clean while the 5150s have been known to not have all that amazing clean. You would sacrifice that unless you want a dirty clean (which some do and it can be really cool, ZAO does it).

oh and just listen to andy dude. JUST TRY ANOTHER GUITAR. There is NOTHING wrong with trying something out. Be open to options...you're preventing a lot of things from happening if you don't give it a chance...

He's not telling you that you have to use that guitar forever then...
