Metal for the Parents

I'm thinking off adding "Clarion Call of Destiny" by Countess to the list for my mother, which means I should subtract something.

Yeah that will be one of my main defenses. I'll even argue its superiority to rap/hip-hop. Both genres often have violent/malavolent lyrics, but because metal is focused on the music and rap is focused on the lyrics, those listening to rap are more prone to be influenced by the lyrics.

They'll believe it too, because they see me having a good life and being a model citizen, yet a metalhead. And then they see my sister, whose life nearly drowned in a cesspool of hedonism, a fan of rap/hip-hop.

A good life, model citizen and a metalhead...nice to hear that.
As far as rap, I hate it but others like it, good for them. My problem with rap is not only the content but people liking it for the wrong reasons, to fit in, trying to be cool, or the wanna be rap/hip-hop style. Its o.k. to try and fit in, but to put on a false impression for a style of music that probably did'nt appeal to some in the first place is bogus.
You don't get that in metal, you either like it for what it is and your a loyal fan or you get the hell out cause there is nothing fake about it.
I also play guitar and have tought my son to play. If its the music you listen to or play as a musician, do it because you love it and it has meaning to you. Be a fan not a phony and be a musician not a rock star!

Metal scares my mother so I never play it around her. My dad refers to metal as "celtic death rock" and finds it aesthetically displeasing (though he likes Priest and Sabbath). Accordingly, I have no interest in showing him metal either.

Mine like In Flames / Opeth / Mastodon / Dark Tranquility and seem to prefer any black/death/grind stuff to the crap on radio.

My parents don't really care what I listen to and I just try not play metal too loudly, because I know they don't really enjoy listening to it. They joke about it sometimes, like asking 'are you a goth then?' if I'm wearing a metal band t-shirt.

My dad doesn't like growls much. He loves Opeth and Nevermore, and he's a musician of about 40 years, so he especially respects and is intrigued by the technical and compositional abilities of most metal bands.

Both my parents hate metal and choose adjectives such and loud, annoying, evil, and satanic to describe it. Neither one has ever been much of a music person at any point in their lives. I think between the two of them they've purchased 1 CD and no records or tapes in the past 20 years. I don't even think they really have preferred genres of music. If they really feel like listening to something (rare occasion) they're perfectly content with whatever happens to be on the radio.

Yeah, my dad is the same way. He thinks Opeth, Symphony X, and Dream Theater are the best bands on the planet and anyone who disagrees is retarded.

My dad doesn't think Opeth is the best, but he does compare them to every metal band he hears, which gets old because Opeth isn't all about being metal, obviously.

Does this mean I get a state appointed worker? Fucking sweet.

My mom likes metal as long as it has singing rather than screaming. The only band she likes with screaming is Opeth. My dad is pretty much the same way, but he focuses on the beat and tries to argue about music with me and prove that metal is simplistic and the same thing all the time. It's funny, because he doesn't know what he's talking about half the time.
