Metal for the Parents

I'll even argue its superiority to rap/hip-hop. Both genres often have violent/malavolent lyrics, but because metal is focused on the music and rap is focused on the lyrics, those listening to rap are more prone to be influenced by the lyrics.

They'll believe it too, because they see me having a good life and being a model citizen, yet a metalhead. And then they see my sister, whose life nearly drowned in a cesspool of hedonism, a fan of rap/hip-hop.

I think the causal relationship you're implying exists here is very debatable.

Yeah that will be one of my main defenses. I'll even argue its superiority to rap/hip-hop. Both genres often have violent/malavolent lyrics, but because metal is focused on the music and rap is focused on the lyrics, those listening to rap are more prone to be influenced by the lyrics.

But metal can have good lyrics... rap can't have good music.

Well, I would agree with the type of rap you may hear in clubs, but even most rap aficionados wouldn't consider that rap at all.

Good rap lies in stuff like older Dr. Dre, older Wu-Tang Clan, Ice-T, etc.

I don't have much rap in my collection, but I know that good rap exists.

I like how he avoids saying "rap can't have good lyrics" since rap is obviously centered around the lyrics.

Uh... can't say bagpipes come to mind when I think "pretty"...

What about, like, harps or violins?
