Metal genres you hate...

Stoner? hahaha
NO!!!!!!!! It's absolutely Doom.
OK. Than to date, it's the exception that proves the rule.:loco:
Zod, have you checked out early Solitude Aeturnus albums? I cant see you not liking that.
I checked out something with "Crimson" in the title. Wasn't bad. I meant to revist it, but never did. I also recently checked out While Heaven Wept. Don't like the vocals.
I think you may be thinking more about the extreme side of doom, which really isnt doom metal at all. But maybe Im wrong too. lol
Perhaps. I know I hate, hate, hate Funeral Doom. Recommend something. I'm always happy to check new music out.

Death metal, pretty much. Specifically brutal death metal. I like stuff like At the Gates and Amon Amarth, but when it comes to "proper" DM bands I've generally just never found them very appealing.

I'm happy to accept that this is mostly down to ignorance since as far as I can remember I've mostly ignored death metal in favour of other genres, so perhaps I've never truly given it a chance.

I don't actively dislike any specific genre, though in the case of some (nu-metal and emocore) there very few if any bands I'd bother listening to. I don't dismiss anything out of hand, but rather listen to it on its own merits.

Yeah but it proves there's a chink in the armor. :loco:

Also, you might like Grand Magus. I'd be shocked if you didn't like "Monument".

Oh and you liked Slumber which implies you should like Rapture....and you can see where this is going.....K-A-T-A-T-O-N-I-A.... (all of those doom)

By the way, a band like Badlands today would simply be called Stoner Rock. And once you're into Stoner, it's hard to avoid doom altogether.

lol the vocals are probably one of the key selling points

keep trying with it until you get it because it's worth it. Out of curiosity, I googled "of empires forlorn review" and clicked on the first 7-8 links....each review glorifying it to the nth degree.

I own "Monument" and "Wolf's Return". Good discs, I prefer the latter. I always viewed them as Traditional Metal.

The songs on that Slumber disc you turned me on to are pretty hit and miss. The only Katatonia CD I like is "Viva Emptiness".

Badlands' influnces seems to lie closer to the source (the blues), whereas Stoner's blues influences sound second generation (if that makes sense).

Metalcore, Brutal Death Metal, anything with the new breakdown riffing, and stuff that chugs.

Zod - You broke my heart....Doom rules

does this mean Zod doesnt like Black Sabbath? Skepticism? Void of Silence (with Nemtheanga, after all)? Even Agalloch has doom elements...

Zod - You broke my heart....Doom rules
LOL. Sorry bro.
does this mean Zod doesnt like Black Sabbath?
With the exception of the "Heaven and Hell" disc, not even a little.
Skepticism?
Not sure if I've ever listened to them.
Void of Silence (with Nemtheanga, after all)?
I bought the disc and dig the ambience of the opening track, but can't say I make it very far into the disc when I play it, which is almost never.
Even Agalloch has doom elements...
I dig much of Agalloch's music, but really struggle with their gawd awful vocals.

You don't like Candlemass? Wow. What about Memory Garden, Fifth Reason, or Abstrakt Algebra? They're less straight-up doom, but have a lot of doom elements.

Anyway, metal genres I dislike as a general rule with few exceptions:
black metal (exception Lunaris)
euro power metal (exception older Blind Guardian and a few miscellaneous releases)
grindcore (exception T.O.O.H.)
brutal death (no exceptions yet)
