That's the point though. If he listens to Opeth, then I don't understand why he keeps calling metal as a whole a worthless genre. You'd think he would realize that there are other artists out there worth listening to as well as Opeth.

And lol @ saying I'm the one making generalizations. Did you even read the OP's post?
 
yeh coz i specifically said you were the only one generalising?

he listens to opeth + a few others in metal. he hates pretty much every other metal band. i honestly dont understand why you cant accept that or even understand it ftlog.
 
He is just as entitled to his opinion - if he wants to say metal is a worthless stlye of music (or something like that) he can. He can listen to whatever he feels like.

Yeah, I agree. I don't really care what he thinks about metal, and It's not like I was telling him to leave. (In fact, I'd rather have him around for entertainment value) I was curious as to why he's such an avid member of a metal forum...

As far as I know he only posts in the Opeth forum and he likes Opeth. I don't think that is too much of a stretch really.
 
It's quite a stretch to like Opeth and completely trash their genre. I can understand Black Sabbath because they're not really full on metal and Metallica because they're a more accessible and commercialized sound, but Opeth..if you like them you're basicly admitting metal is at least ok. It's fine to point out that most metal bands suck just like most bands period suck, but an Opeth lover with a brain can't possibly think the entire genre of metal is any more illegitimate than other genres unless he's trying to start #### with metalheads for a giggle. (which is fine, he's just not admitting it lol)

Oh and where's all the Bob Dylan and such in your top 5 debut albums Arasmas?

Again, he is entitled to say or think whatever he wants - even if it may be inexplicable, or at least to some.

By all means argue about whether Arasmas is entitled to like only Opeth and hate all other metal because it is such a worthy discussion. I think people are just trying to take aim at him (and his taste in music) instead of his taking aim at his arguement. And many of those people are the ones who have gotten a bit prickly because for him doing the same.
 
He's entitled to say whatever he wants, but I thought forums were entitled to ban people for flaming. And I don't know anything more representative of flaming than insisting over and over again in a very explicit way that almost every other member of the forum is pretty much "retarded."
 
If it is such a big problem then add him to your 'ignore list' - then you won't have to read his apparently inflamatory flames - which are rather tame really, it is not as if we are talking serious bigotry here.

Or simply don't reply to his posts. If he is doing it to bait people, obviously you are just adding fuel to the fire by going back at him. If he has no other reason to be here other than winding people up, eventually he will go.

Obviously you are not going to change his mind about metal being 'retarded' so why bother trying?
