Metallica, Testament or Megadeth ??

I think all 3 were/are great. All 3 bands, as mentioned, had 3 or 4 album stretches during their careers that cannot be surpassed by many bands.....

I love all thses bands and I know this is mostly of an older generation of thrash heads but guys do you ever listen to anything more extreme. Hatesphere, Carnal Forge, NightRage, Impious, and Dew Scented all have released great Thrash albums in the last two years. The Sweden THrash scene is killer.

If I had to vote Overkill and Testament all the way.

I like Nightrage, or at least their first 2 albums. Dew Scented, I have everything they have done, so far.

Yeah, I'll go with Testament too. For a lot of reasons.

Megadeth, hands down.

Testament get points for remain relevant, but lose points for being a little repetitive (but always thrashtastic - love the Legacy) in their early years.

Metallica, yeah they were great but I always liked Megadeth better - far more nastier thrash. Their first four albums were monsters! Peace Sells still blows my mind today.

Megadeth: Rust in Peace, Peace Sells, So Far So Good, Killing is My Business and Countdown to Extinction

vs

Testament: The New Order, The Legacy, Low

vs

Metallica: Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, Kill Em All, AJFA

Megadeth wins that pretty easily actually, Testament second on the basis that TNO and TL are better than anything Metallica wrote.

It is an easy choice.......... Metallica. I love some of Megadeth's stuff as well as Testamment's as well, but Metallica was kings of metal for a reason. They were a progressive power thrash band. They incorporated time and mood changes as well as most prog bands, had driving fist pumping rythms that rivalled any powermetal band and also had enough "in your face" chunka chunka style headbanging to suit most "thrashers." Sure, they sold out and pissed me off as much as they did everyone else, but they went after the money and succeeded. So be it. As opposed to being pissed off at them forever, I have decided that I will enjoy the stuff they made that I like and ignore the rest.

*smelling*

ahhh........ smells like the 80's. yep. very good year. cool bands, great songs and not only in the rock and metal world.

as an answer to your question:
1. guns and roses*
2. metallica
3. not megadeath for me.

sorry guys. for me, megadeath isn't even a challenge to metallica.
*not in the list, but it is a band that started in the end of the 80's(first album Appetite to Destruction in 1989) and made huge success. although it's famous for its albums Use your Illusion in the 90's, appetite put it on the globel map.

1. GnR has nothing to do with Thrash and this is not about album sales...
2. It's spelled Megadeth.. no "a" in the name. Even though I'm a bigger "old" metallica fan then megadeth fan, to say Megadeth is not a contender means you have not listened to much of their albums.

1. tell you the truth, i cant longer tell the diffrence between metal and rock any more. why?
some people say that gnr is a rock band, which is true. but others say gnr made metal songs, so its metal band:hypno:
2. didnt mean to write "megadeath". i know its megadeth. that what happens when you write to fast:P
3. i have a friend that hears only megadeth, so yes. i heard their albums. but come on! do they have an album that is better than "master of puppets" or "black album"???

Its true that Metallica's best (MoP) is better than Megadeth's best, but Youthanasia, Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction are some Megadeth albums that are much better than The Black Album (which was the beginning of Metallica's downfall).

1. I hear ya about the distinction of metal and rock. I get it alot when I argue for AC/DC being metal. Because Angus's solos are not played a million miles a hour with tapping, tremolo etc. it's not considered metal but I see AC/DC as metal along with Quiet Riot, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister etc. Their music is Metal "anthems" and few see that. AC/DC were metal for their time (they debuted in 1973, can you name any other bands during that time other then Black Sabbath that were "heavier")and as such is metal for all time.

2. When you misspelled Megadeth I thought you were from Brazil lol I see alot of Brazilians spelling the band that way.

3. Son of Evil already answered this but I would like to add that Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning are way better then the Black album (and yes this album was the beginning of their downfall and was when i stopped being a fan though I still like to listen to their first 3 albums)

As all 3 potentially have albums coming out this year:

1) Testament - I will buy their album the day it comes out, and I'll hunt for singles or foreign releases in case there are any bonus tracks or b-sides
2) Megadeth - I will try and download an advance release, and if it's good, I will likely buy it within the first week of release
3) Metallica - not anticipating it whatsoever. Definately will not buy it, might not even listen to it, might download it and give it away just to piss Lars off

Of course, if you had asked be this question in 1987, my answer would have been in the exact reverse order

I'm quite impressed with the new Megadeth disc. There are no brilliant tracks on it, but the whole album is very good. You can listen without skipping songs.

Reminds me a lot of Countdown to Extinction.

I vote for that (thanks Brandon for pointing it out for me). I have listened three times in a row. This should have been the album after "Youthanasia", is more consitent than CW. I like it a lot, already on wishlist for May 15
