Please explain how you know when Mustaine/Megadeth has poured his/their heart and soul into one of their records? They might have half assed it for United Abominations(an ok record imo) and went balls out for Risk(which I agree sucks).

True that Death Magnetic's riffs are somewhat bland or lack inspiration. And its still a better CD than anything that Megadeth has put out this decade. If you took all the good songs from Megadeth's CD's this decade you'd have 1 very good CD.

I'm not a huge Metallica fan by any means. Both of these bands have been passed by years ago.
 
Trying to convince anyone that either band is better is useless. Its personal opinion. I think Death Magnetic was good but I dont listen to it because of the sound (it even put me off listening to the good GHIII-rips). Still I think everything megadeth has done in the 2000's beat DM. Thats just what I prefer. It connects with me in a whole different way than Metallica does. If someone else feels differently thats not a big thing. We arent here to convert people now are we?

Also the two main thing musically that makes me think DM isnt what it could have been is (1) the riffs seem to be thrown together alot of the time without great flow in between them. Almost amateur like riff structures. And (2) Lars really hs gotten hideously bad. His drumming is so uninspired and bad that it ruins alot for Metallica as a whole.

I'm glad you brought the subject. Even if I'm the moderator and should be my duty, I got tired long ago everytime this damn A vs B threads come out.
Music like, politics, football, sex, religion are always controversial subjects because everyone hasits own opinion, set of beliefs and ethics principles and no one will turn you around from them. Indeed, we ARE NOT here to convert people, we are to discuss inteligently (which not everybody does, it seems reading the rules is an anathema to them) and have fun.

Besides in the end do you think any of the bands care what we talk about? As long as there's enought audience to buy their albums and attend the gigs, all technical discussions we can make are inane. In the end filling their pockets is their ultimate goal, is a business and like all business the idea is to make money.
 
death magnetic is an album of poor riffs, rehashed ideas and too many cymbal hits that are way too loud in the mix

Just because Dave Mustaine has the voice of a whiny bitch doesn't mean that he's putting his delicate little heart into his music.

Forget it is a lost cause. I've seen this before time and again in forums when this so called debates came out, people become opinionated instead of just giving their thoughts a valid argument and retire from the discussion. I said where my preferences are and discussed once about UA and DM, I consider my case exposed and no need to keep on it, but some people like the scent of a fight :Smug:

P.S. Of course the minute somebody cross the line (read the rules) I'll lock this thread :heh:

Well I am a administrator of a forum so maybe Im just sowing mu colours so to speak ;)

Good moderation can actually not completely eliminate these kinds of thing but can reduce them quite a bit. In the end its just annoying seeing people becoming eotional for "their truth" when everyone knows the discussion won lead anywhere since its a matter of taste.

I often say that what one enjoys musically is subjective with the exception of St Anger which was so bad its objective truth :D

Yeah specially the consistency after SSOASS :rolleyes:. Lef face the fact Motorhead is most consistent kick ass band around, the only thing Megadeth and Metallica have near them is the M in the name :p

I don't know if there actually is an established use of the phrase Pussy Thrash, but I've heard it so many times that I've at least adopted my own interpretation of its meaning. That would be something along the lines of "Thrash with emphasis on melody, production and technicality. Often accompanied with very clean and clear Heavy Metal vocals and lyrics NOT about satan or war (the awesome lyrical subjects). Bands like Anthrax, Megadeth and Testament after their debut as opposed to bands like Slayer, Kreator or Dark Angel."

Now don't get me wrong.. I like some pussy thrash (hell most of Metallica's first four is pussy thrash) :) but I prefer the uglier side of thrash.. that's all :)

Well that is what thrash is ALL about for me, after all Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Toxik, Xentrix, Atrophy, Heathen, Zoetrope they all are there somehow.

Thrash wasn't all about that (or even most) maybe more in earlier European thrash bands (read Germany), but most where about political, social, economical criticism and that goes too for very technical with not so clean vocals bands like the almighty Coroner and Anacrusis (which btw are on my limit of tolerance regarding vocals).

I don't think pussy thrash exist at all, maybe melodic thrash (early Megadeth) and raw thrash (early Kreator), some thrash/hardcore (Suicidal Tendencies), thrash/death (Sepultura) or blackened thrash (don't know any name I abhors black).

My very personal opinion on the subject.

These are all good distinctions in Thrash Metal.. however the phrase Pussy Thrash would be an easy way to make a distinction between melodic thrash and all the following examples you made of more aggressive thrash (crossover, death/thrash, black/thrash). Of course.. a more neutral, less offensive term for this style of thrash might be preferable and less provocative to those who enjoy melody and technicality in their thrash.. but Pussy Thrash just sounds so good.. now doesn't it? :)
