Michael Jackson R.I.P.

ok, can we please stop this bollocks now. In what way did he have any influence on anything metal? and dont mention that EVH solo.

If I said that I didn't take anything away from Michael Jackson in my metal journey, I'd be a filthy liar. That guy was one of the greatest entertainers in history.

I'm not saying he was directly responsible for anything in metal, but there's no denying that he's in the flowchart SOMEWHERE. A catchy-ass chorus is doing nothing but paying homage to historical songwriting, which is an art he mastered. A synchronized headbang on stage is appealing because it's an entertaining form of dance, and MJ's the most iconic dancer in pop music.

These are not things that draw an immediate connection, but as an artist, he was so good that his influence knew no boundaries. You'll find jazz, metal, rock, pop, and country covers of Michael Jackson songs. It's undeniable. Dude influenced all musical walks of life.

Michael Jackson's music included all styles of music. Yet it all sounded like Michael Jackson - This was his greatness.

Michael Jackson is one of my MAIN influences in anything I write. His 'Bad' album was the first album I ever owned/listened to. I'm 23 now and have listened to his music ever since I can remember, dancing in the front room of my childhood home to the 'Smooth Criminal' video as my grandad sat and watched me. Michael's music is a HUGE part of my life and I still listen to his stuff on a weekly basis.

Music is music. Regardless of style.

This "it's not metal" talk is just plain RIDICULOUS.

RIP.

I'll have you know this is a metal forum

TBH I don't really care nor did I feel anything when I read the news. Sure, I can appreciate his acchievements, even though I never listen(ed) to it. I lost my appreciation for him a long while ago, when he started doing all kinds of shit I don't really think highly of.

This thread is ignorant.

When's he gettin Cryogenically frozen.

come now, this may be a metal forum but i've seen posts bitching about why people should not hurt flies to why movies like Up and Wall-E are so great.

while you may not like him or his music, to deny his influence on all music (metal included) is just plain wrong. he's undeniably the best selling artist of all time and had the best show on earth. his albums, production wise set the bar for modern recording when they came out. i think it'd be hard to find a place in this world that hasnt heard of him or loves his music. and i'm sure there will be plenty of metal bands out there posting statements on their twitter or myspace about how we've lost one of the greatest musicians of our time.

and if you need a reason thats more relevant than all of that... isnt the SM7 still selling mics because of him? its the first line on their ad, that he used it to record Thriller.

i'm not here trying to defend the other things he's done. but it doesnt change the fact that Dirty Diana, Beat It, Smooth Criminal and so many others still rock, even decades later.

i dont know people can say what they want there will never be another superstar like him...

ever.

def a super weirdo but hey you can't deny his superstardom. jesus and him are in a league of their own. either way i usually don't care when a celebrity dies but this is different since i basically grew up with his music and still listen to this day. i still have thriller and bad both on tape.

I just skipped to the fourth page, andi m wasted out of my mind right now, so give me some leighway but it seems like you fucks are actually speaking ill of the recently departed fucking MICHAEL JACKSON

to speak ill of michael jackson is to speak ill of the musical roots for so many of us, especially me
i had a waistcoat and a hat and i wished i was michael jackson when i was little kid
he was my fucking idol when i was a tyke, and he's arguably where my obsession with music started, and i owe him that much, whether he's a pedo or not, disregarding any mental illness, it's all about what his music's done for a lot of fucking people
i hate to be a melodramatic little cunt, but michael jackson dying is like 90% of loosing a bit of ourselves in there somewhere.

I read about this a few hours ago, was quite shocked.
He had some fucking cool songs under his belt.
RIP dude.
