MJR sweeps

Ah man, I was totally waiting for a "This should be in the musician's forum."
Yeah, Smoke and Mirrors rocks pretty hard.

What about the beginning of the second Damnation Game solo? Love that lick.

you know what that also stuck out in my mind. Not super fast, but its a bitch to phrase it exactly like he does with those grace note slides.

Awesome, yeah, I just realised the sweeps near the end of Smoke and mirrors, damn. So difficult 0_0

I had heard people say he was a better sweeper than John petrucci, and i wasn't sure because I hadn't heard much sweepin' from MJR. And i'd heard plenty of sweeping from JP (Endless Sacrifice, Curve <Suspended Animation)

But yeah, now I'm pretty sure MJR is a bit better.

And now I've got something else to learn lol

I really need to learn how to sweep something other than a basic minor chord formation.

-------------12-17p12--------------
----------13-----------13----------
-------14-----------------14-------
----14-----------------------14----
-12-----------------------------12-

This shape is all I can sweep. Although it's easy, it still wows everyone around here, since they all like emo and think power chords are hard to play.

Try variants of the three string sweep/sliding diminished arpeggios. The shape is easy and you can get up to speed pretty fast and start at the base of the neck and work your way all the way up. The only problem is that it's very overused IMO.
