MLB 2008 - Official Thread

Well, those KC players have talent and when coming up thru the system they probably did'nt know any better about the "big leagues" etc. There must be something to the "playing in a certain city" thing, who knows? All I know is that I've been to Sox v Yankees games in April, ex. (although it was a while ago), seeing Shea f-in Hillenbrand hit a walk off HR against the great Mo Rivera- you would have thought the Sox just won the pennant the way the crowd reacted. So, maybe there is something to the city you play in that brings out the best in players.

It has to have some sort of effect. I think KC also has a very poor developmental staff, and probably doesn't have their players fully ready for the majors when they get there. Hence, why once they've been seen and studied by all the other teams scouts, they're weaknesses are exploited and they're never the same.

I'm still neutral on it. The allegations are sound, but so is the potential that this guy is just trying to land a big fish.

I'll wait until the Congress session before considering any judgments.

Welp the big day is here finally. Clemens is going to talk before Congress about his alleged doping. What is everyones thoughts on it? Do you think he is lying?

Eh, it's a bit early to tell. So far there only seems to be circumstantial evidence. McNamee says he did it, Clememns says he didn't. Pettitte admitted that McNamee told the truth about him, Canseco says he never knew of Clemens juicing. So on and so on.

I, personally, think he's most likely guilty. If he's not, great. If he is, well he was really more of a Red Sox than a Yankee, anyway :p. But I guess we'll see.

What can one really draw from this hearing, other than that most of the committee members had already made up their minds before the hearing?

Obviously, McNamee told the truth about Pettitte and Knoblauch. It's also obvious that's he lied about many other things and that he is a generally unsavory character. So, there's no real reason to think that he lied about Clemens, but it's hard to ignore the fact that he has a history of being deceitful.

Clemens, on the other hand, appeared to be dodging a lot of questions. Specifically, he completley avoided the question about why McNamee would have told the truth in regards to Pettitte and Knoblauch but not about him. What motivation could he have possibly had to lie only about Clemens?

Pettitte should have been there. I think if he was there, the picture would have been much clearer and the hearing might have actually told us something. Pettitte obviously feels that it was understood between he and Clemens that both were using HGH, but Clemens does bring up a valid point: If Pettitte knew that Clemens was using, why is it that they only ever touched on the subject twice, and why is it they never did it together? Everyone knows that they always worked out together, and now everyone one knows that Pettitte use HGH. Why then, if Clemens told Pettitte that he was also using, did they seem to keep their use so private in regards to each other?

Again, I don't believe that Clemens is innocent, but this situation is obviously a lot more complicated than "is Clemens a liar: yes or no?".

He's been dead to me since 1997 anyway

Why?

When he left the Red Sox.

Yes, I know that's when he left the Red Sox, but that is hardly a reason to declare a player "dead" to oneself. I can't imagine that Orlando Cabrera is "dead" to any of you, even though he made the choice to leave Boston while it was the decision of the Red Sox front office (correct me if I'm wrong) to part ways with Clemens.

Orlando Cabrera didn't go to the Yankees. I know Roger didn't go there immediately, but still, after being the posterchild of the Red Sox organization, to join the Yankees...
