Moshing at a Dream Theater show

Are you fucking kidding me? Is this really your reponse?:lol::lol::lol:

Well if you are going to reach into the grade-school hat for the pot-kettle card, I get the rubber-glue card. I win yu-gi-oh style.

Moshing is lame at every show. The only reason to mosh is because you are bored and don't like the music. Moshers are stupid though because its usually a bunch of scrawny kids and then one bigger kid who wants to be the bully.

Come on people, everyone knows Dream Theater is NOTHING, especially compared to old school bands like Annihilator, Overlord, etc... I mean, seriously. Metal would be so much better if Dream Theater had never existed. I think Dream Theater ruined it all, they bored all of the true metalheads and didn't contribute to the genre whatsoever.

Dream Theater is so false metal. They're so not old school, which obviously make them shit. It's so boring to hear actual musicians playing their instruments and writing good songs. I can't stand it.

Now let me get back to my 80s tru-and-only-real-metal bubble and go listen to some "real music."

I by no means think they are talentless or "false metal", I just think that they are extremely overrated and can't write more than a handful of decent songs, even if their lives depended on it. As musicians, they are top tier. As songwriters, not so much.

Relax, dandelion. My post was entirely as comic relief, just as yours was regarding Dream Theater boring you. The only intention was to get you riled up. Again.

First of all, I don't think of Dream Theater as a metal band at all. They are a progressive rock band with metal influence. Sure they have a metal album (Train of Thought) and some heavy songs, but the majority of their material is waaaay more diverse than most other bands. They happen to be my favorite band. Why? Not because of their technical ability, but because their songs make me feel something. I haven't heard another prog band that puts such emotion into their music. And the fact Dream Theater can be emotional and technical at the same time is one of the factors bringing them their success. And don't even start on Labrie's voice, because there is no other singer that sounds like him. His voice ranges from soft and whispery, all the way to powerful and aggressive, without sounding like just another power metal singer with no personality. I don't want to hear ANY other singer with them. He is the PERFECT fit for them and if you don't like it go listen to whatever the hell you want to and quit trying to act cool by calling great bands "overrated" just because they have a bigger fan base than your favorite bands.

Well, evidently, they see themselves otherwise.

I completely agree with you about many power metal singers having no personality, but personality or not, most of them are much more talented than Labrie. Labrie on a studio album and Labrie on a soundboard bootleg sounds like two different singers. The difference is, no studio touch ups to hide his MANY imperfections. And before you bitch about my comparing studio to bootlegs, remember, I said SOUNDBOARD recording, not some douche with a tape recorder out in the crowd.

I'm trying to act cool by calling "great bands" overrated? Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know that I was somehow boosting my ego by talking about a shit band and just how shitty they really are, while pissing off their fans who are too busy jerking off to Portnoy or Petrucci wanking away. No, I don't need things like that to boost my ego. As for them having a bigger fan base than my favorite bands? No, I don't think so. I don't think that Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, etc.. have a smaller fan base than Dream Theater, nor do I judge their worth by the size of their fan base.

Dontcha know that the sole basis of determining a band's songwriting ability is how quickly their shows sell out?

Coldplay is fucking METAL.

I don't know if you've heard that Labrie fucked up his voice right before the "Awake" tour or not, but he did. Before that, he was fucking incredible. Just watch this from a little bit before his voice got fucked:

So what you're saying is that 15 years ago, Labrie was an incredible live singer.

For the record I do like some of Dream Theater's stuff but my god they are boring live.

Jesus Christ, what's with all the Dream Theater hate on here???

There is indeed a very vocal anti-prog metal segment of this community. They tend to stand out more because of their type of verbiage they employ as compared to the other side of the coin.

As long as that flames are kept to a minimum, I consider it the circle of life on the forum. Perhaps Asc..er..uh..Up & Away can chime in and balance things out.
