Most popular underground metal Band. Is it Opeth?

I voted Dimmu Borgir on the list you had but Opeth and Morbid Angel are my faves from the list. Cannibal Corpse is the most popular underground band no questions asked!

I think that it is....

1. Dimmu Borgir.

I really think that Dimmu Borgir is going to be the next "underground metal band" to enter the mainstream. The reason why? They are only second to Cradle of Filth when it comes to popularity in the "commercial black metal" genre. They are also going to be playing in front of thousands of people at Ozzfest shows, so that is going to definitely place them on the map by giving them a ton of exposure.

2. In Flames and Opeth.

I have noticed that In Flames is pretty popular.

Really, they are about as popular as Opeth. I don't know, you could consider Opeth the most popular Swedish metal band, but you cannot ignore In Flames.

3. Soilwork, Children of Bodom, and so on.

Other bands that are pretty notorious, imo.

I voted Shadows Fall but after further thinking Dream Theatre is probably most popular. I have a feeling In Flames is gonna take off after their next album hits stores.

Dream Theater is hardly underground.....not well known generally, but not underground.



And morbid angel has outsold every single band on that list so far....so my vote goes for them.....this seems to be a popularity contest otherwise.

it's hard to say.. when you think about it twice.. dimmu borgir are slowly selling out even making the ozzfest this year. Cradle of filth are dead but they are popular cause they became more commercials too. They signed on majors labels and im sure dimmu will do the same thing too or something like roadrunner maybe... As far as opeth goes, they are not as known as thoses bands but ppls whos knows them loves them.. ITS hard to find a negative review about opeth. So in my view opeth is the most respected band. I think but i'm not sure that damnation entered the top 200 in the us charts.
bTW i saw opeth yesterday in montreal and it was crazy. huge crowd again here despite their third apperance in 13 months. they even played the intro of michael jackson's billy jean! For a band who plays 10 minutes songs its really amazing.

It pisses me off that you would concider a band a sell out because they play Ozzfest.. fuck you! If someone offered you a spot on ozzfest im not so sure you would say "No dude Im too fucking metal to play in front of thousands of people dude because metal is not about entertaining people dude"

Listen to the new Dimmu album .. I agree that cradle of filth sold out... cradle of filth fucking suck. They became an american band to sell to the americans and you can't fucking deny that, just listen to the music and compare it to when they supposedly didn't give a fuck about what people wanted to hear from them. Anyway im just ranting but to me cradle of filth were always cheesy fucks and I think Dani should find a new way to sing his lyrics beside the typical phony "poetic" shit, if you know what I mean. His lyrics belong in a poetry book not on a metal album.

I really don't know, maybe the lyrics in Dimmu's music are the same but at least they have diversity .. dani sings the same exact shit the same exact style each fucking time.

The operatic vocals fucking BLOW......... now that is cheeeeeeeeeeesy. I appreciate diversity in music but the spoken word shit is just so annoying and I just can't take it or them seriously anymore. It's music for demented people, vampire lovers, kids who want to be gothic, I don't know who it's for but it's just lame and tasteless. What does

Me and a few friends were camping last weekend and somebody put metal down, so I talked with him a bit and explained how metal is not all about what he thought it was all about. One of my friends then put on cradle of filth ... I used to a be a fan so I kept it on. I was actually for the first time embarrased of death/black metal whatever they call themselves. The first song that came on was Dani saying some poetic bullshit .. it just sounded so cheesy. A bunch of little sluts came along making fun of this music and I couldn't help but join them because if anyone can't see through the cheese which is cradle of filth than they should get slapped in the face.


Im sorry but I just hate that band and if Dimmu Borgir are sell outs than Cradle are definately the next boy band.
