Movies

Troy - pretty weak overall. the battles were pretty cool, and I think it was at least fairly accurate (though it did change a few things), they just tried to give Achilles too much depth and it seemed like it was trying too hard to be Gladiator.

hehe from what i've heard (i haven't seen it myself) the gods are missing, i'd say that's pretty inacurrate ;)
btw, i listened to some expert on classical antiquity review it and he claimed it differed so much from the illiad and odessey that it could not be said to be based on it

in the end it says "Inspired .. " not "Based".
That didnt bother me , Petersen sucks Hollywood's cock and i expected many changes in order to make the movie another typical huge american production and easy to be understood from those who didnt ever read the Iliad, or even do not know whats going on in Iliad
What i did not like, was that he ingored many really beautiful parts of Iliad, that would help the movie to be a lot better.

I could, but is the risk worth $7, when I could wait a while and then rent it for half the price?
I occasionally agree with this line of thinking, but some movies are just made to be seen on the big screen. Troy is no doubt one of them. Unless of course you have a 50"+ widescreen in 16x9 ratio and a 6:1 stereo DTS setup.

well, they talked about the gods, but they didn't ever actually show them. I need to read the Iliad; I think we read part of it in school, but it's pretty foggy for me.

Either way, pretty weak movie. There are so many moments where you're pulled out of the movie because of how 'Hollywood' it is. So many cringe-worthy lines. Sloppy editing, too.

Identity

Holy balls that ruled, I love movies where you don't know what the fuck is going on until near the end. There was a time that I hated Amanda Peet, and now I want to make babies in the snow with her unmentionables, in the gay way. She's not the reason I loved the movie, but I had to come clean.

watched Lolita last night, the one with Jeremy Irons. fucking. brilliant. just as good as the Nabokov book, if not better. it followed the novel prefectly and easily captured the tension of the second half of the novel. this may seem weird but... i don't blame ol' Humbert Humbert. that chick who played Lola Hayes was pretty bonerrific for a 14 year old!

been meaning to check that one out for some time, dunno why i havent though... all kubrick movies are mandatory

watched ROTK for the first time last night. what a behemoth of a movie that one was, and a really good one. the battle scenes where simply stunning and the effects in general of couse. though some details really made me cringe; like the punch line eowyn throws right before killing the nazgul king... punch lines do NOT belong in fantasy movies, they are for van damme and the likes, damn you peter jackson.

even though it was over three hours i found it pretty apparent that a lot of stuff had been left out and it sometimes felt like the scenes where rushed and destilled to only contain the most vital for the story. it this one was a behemoth i wonder what the extended version will be like :D

Eurotrip
FUnny stuff. Nothing extraordinary. Just a fun way to pass an hour and a half. Lots of boobies.

Elephant
I'm so fucking tired of these artsy films. Note to the directors of indie films: following a character from behind for 5 minutes does not make the film deep or symbolic. It does however, put your viewers to sleep.
At least the last 15 minutes was pretty cool, and almost made up for the first hour. But some things keep nagging at me (WARNING: SPOILERS)

1. What the fuck did the black guy ("Bennie") think he was doing? He walked right into death!! He must have had some crack before going to school that day.

2. Why did Killer #1 shoot killer #2?

3. That school (and any high school I've ever seen) had a shitload of doors. Why did these student retards try to hide in meat lockers and classrooms instead of running out the door, or even breaking a fucking window? HELLO???!!!!!!!!

Big Fish

Not as visually extravagant as I was expecting from Burton, but still a very good story and great characters. Plus whatever Pearl Jam song is on the ending credits is great, I guess they still have a few decent songs left in them.

The Village looks interesting...

Although it does look like it will be very similar to Signs...

King Arther looks decent as well, plus that chick from Pirates who is of course überhot is in it.
