Movies

the isle: a south korean movie about a girl who runs a fishing resort where men come to spend some days in small floating houses and do some fishing. she sells bait and deliveres prostitutes to them and also has sex with them herself, sometimes for money. there's hardly any dialouge which creates a nice atmosphere and i was expecting the movie to turn into some moody horror flick, but instead, pretty soon it turned into a boring and mundane love/murder story and i lost interest and turned it off.

oldboy: a really cool movie, also south korean and it even won some award at cannes. i don't want to say too much about it since it would ruin the experience of seeing it, but it's basically about a guy seeking revenge for a strange and nasty thing that has been done to him. it also features some hot asian action

*insert jerkoff smiley here*

THE DREAMERS ... Bernardo Bertolucci directed and I was expecting a lot more than what I got ...

but to see Eva Green in her Godly completely naked beauty just grinding on the floor ... was worth it ... mama mia !>?!?!?!?!?

otherwise I just felt like smacking the shit out of all 3 main characters for the rest of the film.

Ju on: The Grudge, FUCK this has to be the most frightening films I have ever seen
Hello, six months ago? :p

Saw Spiderman 2 today. It was ok - worthy follow up. Two good scenes: fight on the train, and the moment Doc Ock wakes up in the hospital with all those trademark Sam Raimi set pieces from Evil Dead. Wonder why Kirsten Dunst decided against wearing makeup in this movie? She looked much better in part 1.

this thread reminds me how out-of-the-loop I am concerning movies. I think The Village will be the first movie I will see at a theater in a good 4 months.

I saw I, Robot too. It had nothing to do with Asimov's I, Robot, except the three laws of robotics, the name and few little details. Still, it was a highly enjoyable and fun.

that's true, but Asimov didn't write the original 'I, Robot'. The collection of his stories titled 'I, Robot' was created by his publisher against his wishes (the stolen title was against his wishes, not the collection). There is a much older book called 'I, Robot' written by someone else. I don't think the movie was based off that, either, but it supposedly dealt with some of the plot points in the movie. I think the writers kind of took ideas from both and created a new story.

Of course, this is all just according to what I read in a review of the movie.

From what I understand the movie is based in the realm Asimov created, not the actual book (which yeah, just a collection of short stories that were originally released separately elsewhere). Also since some of the characters are from Asimov's I, Robot but the story isn't, that makes sense.

I haven't seen it or Fahrenheit 9/11 yet, but I plan on seeing both.

Well, I saw Ferenheit 9/11 last week.
has anyone seen it?
I saw it. Interesting, but a tad bland honestly. I think it was geared towards the average liberal American who hasnt watched or read much news in the past few years. Not a bad movie though. What did you think?

This is a documentary somewhat satirical movie, and what I loved about it, is the reminder for the people that tend to forget, (with Iraq and 9/11) what a joke Bush is.
all the vacation time he took before 9/11, and the fact that he WAS NOT even elected!

Yes, some parts are ridiculous in that movie, for example: I didn’t like the way he showed Baghdad as a “place where kids fly kites” It was a shit hole where people were depressed by their leader.. but oh well, I know the reason why he did that….
Also: he showed Bush hanging out with all those Oil rulers from Saudi Arabia, like it’s a bad thing, and that’s bull.
Every president has to maintain a political relationship with those people, other wise: there would be no CARS!
But other than that, this movie is a MUST for everyone for the 80% of it that I do agree on.

Well then that's a fantastic coincidence that the Governor of the state that decided the election just happens to be the president's brother.

Bump :)

In the last week I've seen:
Mystic River
Donnie Darko - Director's Cut
The Eye (finally!)
Session 9
Dead End
Freddy Vs Jason
Bubba Ho-Tep
Hellboy
Joyride
Sympathy For Mr Vengance and a few others that escape me right now :) So it's been a good week all in all :D

Anywho, UK people, are any of you coming to any of the films in this? I've got a weekend pass, so I should be there for every film. If any of you are in London and seeing them get in touch and we can meet up and discuss what a kickass line-up it is :p You;re not coming over here in August any more, are you JK?

I saw The Bourne Supremacy just this week. Excellent espionage film. Matt Damon is very convincing as an action star (unlike that Affleck guy). Tons of asskicking scenes and an awesome car chase scene.

Nice.

Bubba Ho-Tep
Hellboy
Still need to see these two.

Wholly underrated flick I thought.

No man, afraid not. August/September for me is completely touch and go. If I fly over at all, it might be around winter. And if Bush wins, it might be a one way trip. :tickled:

Russell is a movie watching machine. :)

I finally saw Good Will Hunting last week, kicked all kinds of ass. Also saw Super Troopers, kicked all kinds of different ass.

The film I'm looking forward to the most is The Exorcist prequel. Anyone seen the trailer yet? Holy shit it looks good. But then, have you ever seen a trailer that made a film look bad?

Plus, they had to make this film twice with two different scripts. How retarded. One version has been shelved for the other.
