Movies

holy shit ... Liam Neeson in TAKEN ... never came out in the US, but those of you in Europe might have seen it this year.

Basically Neeson kills about 100 badies in supreme ass kicking fashion around Paris looking for his daughter in the sex trade underground.
This is what old school Segal used to be like. Just balls out action.

I'm on the fence about Dune (1984)

Is it a terrible, terrible, movie? Or is it awesome epic 80s cheese?

I can't decide at all.

Awful film. The Sci Fi series is better, but like The Dark Tower, film will never be kind to Dune. Too many intricacies, integral to the plot and/or fans, would be left out.

Yeah, I saw that a bit ago, Awesome shit it was. Same writer as the Leon (The Professional), the Transporter movies, The Fifth Element and Nikita, so you know exactly what to expect the second you pop the DVD in (Asskicking).

Speaking of which, Transporter 3 next week. Can't wait to turn off my brain and watch Jason Statham kick some ass and take some fucking names.

Actually I thought it was a very cool movie, but did in fact fail to do justice to the book(s) for sure. If you try and take it out of context (which is admittedly hard after reading the story) I thought it was enjoyable.

Do movies give the option of stereo anymore like they did several years ago? I can't recall watching a DVD recently where the setup menu allowed you decline the bullshit 5.1 tracks.

not many ... mostly the smaller indie talkies still do.
was watching the new Indiana Jones last night in the bedroom and had to crank the fucker up as it only has 5.1 by default ... which for some reason is inaudiable at lower volume levels.

5.1 is shit. It's one of my many tech-related pet peeves. The most annoying thing is that very very few people even have a 5.1 system and those that do, maybe like 12 of them have it set-up correctly.
The thing that really gets under my skin though is how your average moron is changing the music industry because they don't have any qualms about listening to a shitty mp3 on $5 speakers. Does anyone even buy CDs any more?

Zack and Miri Make a Porno - No laughs to be found here. Kevin Smith relies solely on toilet humor to get a rile out of the audience. Seth Rogen is as lovable as ever (he's Nad for crying out loud) and Elizabeth Banks is a breath of fresh air in the dismal hollywood scene, but the rest of the cast are quite linear, and if I say so my self, quite fucking annoying. We get to see Jason Mewes cock n balls, but not Banks tits?!? FAIL

Role Models - Nonstop hilarity, this is the comedy to see this fall. Rudd's pessimism contrasted by Scott's boyish simplicity lights up the stage alongside their childhood co-stars "nubian noobie" and "McLovin. I laughed legit a good dozen times, and bare witnessed to rising star Carly Craig's magical meat puppets. Holy fuck what a mound. It could be crude at times, but the lines are always delivered in a well crafted manner.

yeah watched american psycho last week, was out of town this weekend (pix later) but i brought yojimbo with me to work today...american psycho was good but not incredible, i get the feeling the book is better. interesting ending.

In an interview with Review Nation on the red carpet of Transporter 3, Sylvester Stallone revealed that he's lining up Dolph Lundgren to co-star in his next film, The Expendables. Lundgren starred in Stallone's fourth installment of the "Rocky" series in 1985.

Sylvester Stallone will star in, write and direct the action film, also starring Jason Statham and Jet Li. The movie follows a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator.
