Movies

Jackie Brown

That was wicked bad awesome. I want Pam Grier more than ever, and I think I need to pick up some Bobby Womack because that Across 110th Street is the most amazing song I've heard in... . . . . . at least a month or so.

I thought Secret Window was pretty redundant, since I'd already seen Fight Club - not that the movies were similar, but I'd guessed the ending about ten minutes into the film...

I really, really enjoyed Finding Neverland, and if Depp doesn't get an Oscar, he's been robbed - but to be fair, Jamie Foxx is probably going to steal it for Ray, which looks excellent.

Assault on Precinct 13

Popcorn flick, nothing more or less. But it was a fun, violent, and sometimes bloody popcorn flick. Fishburne kicked ass as the no-BS classy gangsta. Hawke did a good job as the main lead. Gabriel Byrne collected a paycheck. Lots of people getting shot in the head. Two hot chicks, including the broad that plays Joey's sister in that show Joey. I've never seen the original, but now I want to.

In other news, for Evil Dead fans and TCM fans:

Hero (2002)

That was a lot better than I expected. I need to start watching more movies like this and going back to more martial arts classics god dammit. GOD DAMMIT!

Oh yes, it's godly.
You need to see The Road Home, made by the same guy. Not that it's martial arts or anything like it, but it it's breathtakingly beautiful and very good.

(Also one of the select few films I've ever seen to make me blub ;))

Was just reading about that one (and others related) on allmovie.com, cool. It's on the list!

Yeah I think I've cried at about 6 movies. They've all earned my respect. :D

NAPOLEON DYNAMITE ... laughed my ass off. great fucking characters.
don't want to say much, but if you like Coen Bros. and Wes Andreson flicks you will love this one.

Anybody heard of a Russian movie called The Return? I heard it was quite good.

I haven't seen it but it has gotten very good reviews here in Sweden, I'll probably rent it later on when it becomes availible, seems to be pretty good.

I watched Chocolate this weekend, pretty uninteresting and rather sappy and predictable but I had nothing better to do. Johnny Depp is always enjoyable though and that's what made not turn it off

Hm, perhaps we're pretty spoiled here then compared to the US. That movie was shown on at least one (of this country's two major cinema firms) and (almost) all films shown is later availible for rent on DVD. Does your general place only have domestic films?

Yeah foreign movies are not a hot commodity; there are like 100 copies of the latest lame horror movie, but maybe 1 of something decent.
