Right now I'm thinking meh, but I imagine in a day or two I'm going to want to watch it again.

Yes I have! As of yesterday! :loco: I also just watched Midnight Cowboy for the first time. It was wicked bad awesome, might watch it again before sending it back.

I have a lot of catching up to do, obviously.

War of the Worlds is getting slammed, haha. Spielberg lost it a long long time ago (except maybe that peak with Schindlers List), but really, he's been shit for about 20 years now.

Saw Troy the other night on HBO. Fuck me, was that abysmal. I mean, these are reasonably "well respected" actors -- how did they keep a straight face spewing out that dialogue?

I'm seriously starting to think I'm the only person on the planet who really, really enjoyed Troy. Oh well... I'm off to see War Of The Worlds tomorrow... might listen to the Jeff Wayne musical version to warm up beforehand...

DUN DUN DURRRRRRR... DUN DUN DURRRRRRRRR...

i liked Troy as well ... had every reason not to ... but I thought it was fine and some good action throughout.

if you were willing to disregard the historical innacuracies ...

I'm happy to watch the flick for the action, and I don't care about the historical inaccuracies, but neither of those influenced what I thought about the final product. If it didn't star Brad Pitt, Troy could have been one of those straight to video releases IMO. OH well, glad I waited until it was on TV. :p

I imagine the movie will fall short of that masterpiece. Tom Cruise vs. Richard Burton....hmmm, let me think....d'oh!

"But still they come...."

war of the worlds is average. i remember when the original radio show first aired. it was pretty scary. spielberg is not scary. anymore.

What are you like 80 years old? :loco:

it was pretty scary. spielberg is not scary. anymore.

Spielberg = Duel, Jaws, Close Encounters, ET, Raiders, Temple of Doom, Schindlers List.

The rest is average -> trash. He lost his touch after Temple...except for Schindlers but I'm sure he was more enthusiastic about that film for personal reasons.

Last Crusade is ok, but it's the weakest of the three. I couldn't get past Connery playing Ford's dad, even though they're only 8 years apart in age or something nuts like that.

I'm on invisible mode? I didn't even realize...ok shall go to profile and change this shitz.

Spielberg and Scorsese have been churning out huddah in the last 15 years.

However, I thought AI was brilliant and very deep ... but I am sure I stand alone on that outlook.

Puke dude, that 8 hour ending totally killed what I liked about AI. If it ended with him underwater, I'd say it was a pretty good flick. As such, I give it two :yuk:'s up.

you didn't like Gangs of New York? I enjoyed it thoroughly, though it is flawed. It is a beautiful film with a powerful antagonist (or protagonist if you look at it in a different light) in Bill the Butcher. The scenery is great.

But for the life of me, I cannot figure out what Scorsese sees in DiCaprio. He's hardly a bad actor, but he just comes across as eye candy for shallow Americans wanting to see beautiful faces than an actor that can engross himself in a character and truly turn a good film into a classic.

Gangs of New York was OK ... I certainly liked it better than The Aviator .... but neither seems as honest as his early work.

Oddly enough the best thing I liked about AI was the ending sequence ... the whole searching ... there was some beauty there and I liked how he took his time with that scene.
Also you can just "feel" Kubrick in that movie.

I agree on DiCaprio ... I like him in some movies, but have grown tired of his never aging look and quirky acting.

The new movie Scorsese is working on looks promising ... a remake of Infernal Affairs.
