Movies

@Monroe: Sounds like something I should see.

Watched The Cooler this weekend. I watched it because I kind of am the cooler when I'm around a friend from work at the cashino. But it was a much more intense movie than I suspected it would be, pretty good...

Seen shitloads of movies recently (just not the more recent ones since I got back to Oz), most recent however was Shrek 2, which I'm surpised to say was better than the original, which is saying alot. Other highlights were 'The Dawn Of The Dead', and 'The Butterfly Effect' (Again), as that had only just started showing in Finland when I left. Need to see Farenheit911 though.

Ok, what all have I seen since I got back from my vacation and of
course what I saw during my vacation:

The Royal Tenenbaums
a weird movie for sure, I did enjoy it tho, but not really something to
rave about and not something I would rent again to see.

Spider-Man 2
more of the same, good adaption of Doc Ock and again quite a good
translation from the comics. The part where PP drops his costume in
the trashbin and walks away is straight from one of the covers.

Kill Bill: Vol. 2
I think QT needs a serious whack on the head for this travesty, this
is even worse than Vol. 1 (and words can't describe that crappiness).
I don't quite know why people keep raving about this pile of horse
manure, I guess if you put QT on top it, the dummies will go for the
"oh it's so extremely violent that it's art" line.

Hidalgo
Yawn.

I, Robot
I was surprised how much fun this movie was, tho I'm quite sure it
wasn't anything like the books. I wouldn't know, I wouldn't touch
Asimov books with a 10' pole.

Artificial Intelligence: AI
Quite a boring stew, but the all entertaining Gigolo Joe at least
kept me smiling during most of the movie.
I don't think Kubrick really had aliens planned for the end, but I
guess we shouldn't be surprised by anything from the guy who
put something as stupid as E.T. in a movie.

The Terminal
Hmp, the premise seemed ok and supposedly it's base on a
real person, but it's made a bit too much of a crowd pleaser,
in America anyone can make it, even if stuck on an airport.

The Ring
What a shitty remake of a much better japanese film, I don't
know, something in the japanese film makes it much scarier,
I would suggest to anyone to watch that instead.

The Ninth Gate
I can't help but like this movie. It's most likely too slow and
not enough scares for most people, but it has a Cthultian
feeling to it and I always like that in movies. And there is
quite many ways to interpid it as well.

The Village
Yet another movie that shows what kind of crap you can
load on the people if you happen to have a hit movie or 2.
I don't quite know what the point of this movie was, maybe
it was meant to scare the same people who were afraid of
going in the forest after seeing The Blair Witch.
Don't go see this.

Catwoman
Um, no, just no. It isn't enough for her to rape X-Men, she
also has to rape Catwoman (not that the character is
interesting in the first place). This movie sucks from pretty
much any direction.

Fahrenheit 9/11
Um, I don't really know what to say of this one, if you've
followed the news and maybe read Bill Mahers "When You
Ride Alone, You Ride With Bin Laden", you have pretty much
all the info from this documentary/movie already.
Of course, Michael Moore is a big name and will surely bring
this to larger audiences as well, which is never a bad thing.
And in anycase, any movie showing the stupidity of
George W. Bu(ll)sh(it) is always fun.

King Arthur
Oh yay, another movie trying to ride on the back of LotR
and Troy. This is supposedly trying to place the legend in
the correct historical time, even tho it's a legend *sigh*
In any case, the movie is just about as boring as you can
imagine, and WTF is the deal with every movie having these
main characters fighting with 2 swords?
I don't know a single culture that actually had fighters with 2
swords or daggers or some such, but this movie makes it
seem like it's childsplay to wield 2 weapons.

Oh an look there is Arwen... oh wait...

Dawn Of The Dead
Wow, I was surprised by this movie, it actually made much
more intelligent use of the mall than the earlier movie and it
showed off the chaos and destruction caused by the
"sickness" getting loose in the towns, something I would
have liked to see more of.
This is the one thing I have a problem with in all "end of the
world" type movies, they always jump the chaos/destruction
parts and their effect on the survivors.
I mean, what would you do if you woke up and noticed you
were all alone in a city that seemed to have all the people
missing? (28 Days Later).
Back to this movie, full of your basic shocks and trills and
also some funny stuff like taking out zombies with a sniper
rifle: Rosie O'Donnell! Tell him to shoot Rosie!

WXIII: Patlabor the Movie 3
Now I have to watch this again, but I did quite like it, not
as much as Patlabor 2, but still quite a bit. I was also quite
glad not to see much of the pretty boring characters of the
SVU ;)

The Butterfly Effect
This movie was surprisinly good, even if slightly let down
by the "and they all lived..." ending. Anyone who likes
Donnie Darko should like this one too.
Oh and don't watch it while getting drunk and talking to
someone ;)

The Chronicles Of Riddick
Vin Diesel, blech. No wonder I forgot this and had to edit.

Torque
There isn't enough bad words to descripe this pile of shit.
The Fast And The Furious on bikes, woopi-fucking-doo-daa.

Wonderful Days
Wonderful graphically, not so with the plot, but it's ok I suppose.

I think that is it for now, have a huge bunch of movies still to see
at home, Bourne Supremacy, Dodgeball and Walking Tall to name
a few.

Baselard: A knife or short sword bearing a hilt or guard in the shape of the letter I, the guard allowed the user to catch an opponent's blade. It quickly became the weapon of choice for many foot soldiers and was used in conjunction with a rapier during the 17th and 18th Centuries.

I fucking hated King arthur aswell. The opening set the tone as a bunch of old wrinkly shits scream in what was clearly supposed to be an emotionally driven fairwell to there young son. This is cheesy crap and powerless. I hated the whole movie.

The acting.... SUCKED...
The fights.... Totally lacked all forms of continuity.
e.g a massive build up to firing a bunch of flaming arrows... we see one arrow hit one person who falls on some thing flamable and lights up a whole load of shit. Where did the other 150 arrows go? Arthur is on a horse... now hes off a horse... now hes on a horse WTF!!!!!

Slicing people up with swords and their being no fucking blood. Its just stupid. My favorite character was the gruff anglo saxon who was evil but dint really do anything wrong in the movie.
And what the fuck is it doing making out it's all true. Why couldn't they just have a fantasy like the original tale is.

Ah there, we go, Burt Reynolds. Tell him to shoot Burt Reynolds. ^_^

True that, forgot them, but I was more refering to using 2 similar weapons
in both hands and wielding them equally on attack and defence, like they
seem to do in most movies these days.

Wouldn't the description be more fitting for a Main Gauche, tho?

@Mag
Well, what can I say, I'm very jaded about movies these days, seen too
many I suppose or maybe it's just Hollywood shoving the same shit to us
year in, year out.

House of Flying Daggers.

Quite disappointing. Visually stunning (oh, Takeshi too), awesome fight scenes, impressive choreography, cool score, nice cg stuff. The first half of the film was pretty good, then towards the second half they screwed up with an unrealistic script. Too many subplots suddenly popping up to be believable. Argh. The ending was gorgeous but sorta stupid. Damn them for ruining it :(

But geez was Takeshi Kaneshiro beautiful. I couldn't stop drooling :p

Watched I, Robot a couple of days ago. It was quite good, nothing special but not boring or crap either. The flagrancy of the product placement annoyed me very much though.

Well done for having a good opinion, Sir.
