Its not boring... its too intricate and intense to be boring. It is a pretty difficult movie though. Someone having his face disintergrated by the unrelentless pounding of a fire extinguisher in close up is the opposite to tedium, it's exciting and brutal. La tennia deserved that foul death... that bastard butt raper.
The fire extinguisher part was...ouch >_<

i just watched he got game, thus completing my retrospective of spike lee films, and still i'm convinced that summer of sam is unbeatable, and better than the revered classics (although some of those are bloody brilliant anyway).

I saw 'Hero' Last night.

Ive never seen cinematography or coreographed kungfu like that in all my life. The fight on the water is beautiful. I also loved Broken swords memories when green was the dominating colour. It looked awesome when Snow and Broken sword were just annhilating the whole of Qins army on their own. Also the Arrow 'Storm' at the calligraphy hall was one of the most spectacular things Ive ever witnessed.

It's all totally unrealistic, but I don't mind too much, I just encoded it as a fantasy movie instead of a kungfu movie. It was very artistic but in an expressionist sense.

There was an advert for 'house of flying daggers' on before it aswell... looks gr-r-r-reat.

Damn it dave this rules

KC: I keep hearing about people hating it. I got a chance to see it ('Hero'), not too long ago, and I really liked it. It's very ..different, very artistic, very well put and directed. It had some really beautifully made scenes ..it had some really powerful scenes (like a series of them towards the end).
Also, the way the story was presented was quite unique as well. It isn't your typical straight-story plot film.
I for one liked it very much and appreciated many aspects of it, including the fights. I always like to watch movies with Jet Li just to see him kick ass. Not that it was much shown in this particular one, but that dude is very impressively skilled.

i saw it yesterday ('hero'). it's totally impressive and i'm not talking just about the fights. i've never seen colours so beautiful and used so well. the fight between moon and flying snow in all the yellow leaves it's incredible. and the verbal confrontations throughout the movie between nameless and the king are comparable to the most spectacular fights. it's a great way to unravel the plot.

Lilja 4-ever is the only film in a year that I´ve rented completely from my own will. It is extremely sad yet beautiful movie. And as I´ve heard, things like that do happen :(.

The only reason why you like SoS so much is b/c it has Italians and punk in it, admit it Claudia :p :D .

I just watched Fahrenhype 9/11, and all the movie did was reinforce my belief that Michael Moore is a big, fat, lying, bag of shit  .

Naku ist krig, yes, I liked this movie too. It's a cruel and beautiful and realistic. I can't believe and I don't want to believe in this dirt of our life.
P.S. Especially I remember the episode when one bastard who seemed to have children himself but nevertheless he raped Lilja

My favourite fight was the one starting with Broken sword and Flying Snow attacking the whole of Qin's army, then Broken sword meeting face to face with the emperor surrounded by the green curtains. So Spectacular.

SPOILER WARNING

Yeah, the battle with the Emperor and the guards is pretty impressive.
One of my favorite scenes (or set of scenes) is the end, when he's escorted out, surrounded overwhelmingly by guards, and executed the way he was.
I mean.. goddamn!! And the valiant and unintimidated expression he has throughout that..
..very powerful scenes, in my opinion.

I saw Hero last week, after putting it off for months. I loved it. Grew up with 'unrealistic' kungfu films so this wasn't a big shock. The fight on the water scene was gorgeous. And the way the lovers er, well you know, atop that mountain. Sigh. I also appreciate how they didn't turn the Emperor into a stereotypical Hollywood tyrant.

@KC: House of Flying Daggers was a disappointment. Beautiful, but pretty blah.

From the advert I thought House of flying Daggers looked like it was gonna be the best movie ever, I guess Im gonna end up dissapointed. We'll see.

So has anyone seen "Iron Monkey" or "once upon a time in China 3"? they are similar in style to Hero and crouching tiger hudden dragon. these were my favourite two kung fu movies but now I think Hero is the best.

I'm uncertain if I've seen Iron Monkey... maybe I know it by a different title? I've seen all the Once Upon A Time in China movies though. How about Fong Sai Yuk? His mother is hilarious.

I honestly don't really like these kinds of movies in general.. The ridiculous flying and the terrible acting.. the 2 exceptions are 'Iron Monkey' which had both of those things but overall wasn't too bad, and the plot was quite entertaining; and 'Hero' which I think is simply a very well done movie in many ways.

NOW.. if you want to see some impressive and insane asskicking (kept down to the ground) and watch Jet Li in all his glory, I highly recommend you watch the movie 'Fist of Legend'

well, you're spot on about the main reasons for liking SoS, but still it's a good movie. and i really want to hug you because of your opinion on the moore film, spot on part n. 2.
i want to see la mala educacion, but i keep on being too lazy to go to the movies.

turns out i missed one spike lee film in the past month, but i've seen it now: "bamboozled". unfortunately, i didn't make much sense of it, because it's really rooted in african-american identity and culture issues (the story is about a black TV producer who decides to broadcast a show on the blueprint of the very racist "minstrel shows" of the 50s and 60s, eliciting first widespread appreciation then a series of tragic events).
