^ to the Czech Republic(Brno) in a week's time with work. Expat status here I come!
Now this is a first for me and I honestly don't know what to expect, in spite of having read/talked to people about life there. Wish me luck!
I know there are a bunch of you over here who have moved to foreign countries/different towns and are doing alright. So if you feel like it, throw your early relocation experiences in here, would make an interesting read for everyone(?)

Yeah, you gotta be careful. I'm in CZ.

Obligatory 'hars' aside, got hired at IBM. It's nothing huge but it's a good start. How did you manage with the cultural differences and whatnot first time you got there?

The differences are not so big, to be really honest. I don't think it's vastly different across a lot of Europe. There are certain differences in character, but there is no culture shock.

Generally, though, the first couple of weeks can be great, then it can get lonely and then after 3-4 months your over the hump and you settle in. It's very easy to live in this country. Too easy maybe.

I was in Brno for two days this summer and it is a lovely place, but they say it's a student's city so it's way more exciting over the rest of the year when the schools are open and everyone hasn't left for summer break.

do you have to learn czech or are you speaking english?

either way, remember the czech yourself before you wreck yourself, and don't write any czechs with your mouth that your ass can't cash.

have fun
