Do your 2005 lists still hold up? Would you change anything? Granted, #'s 8-10 of my list I didn't hear until '06 and we're only 2 months in!! I bet by end of year it could look vastly different again.

OK, all these are pretty equal in weight, but I'll list them in order of which ones I listened to the most:

1. PRIMORDIAL - The Gathering Wilderness
2. BRUCE DICKINSON - Tyranny of Souls
3. MOONSORROW - Verisakeet
4. NOVEMBERS DOOM - The Pale Haunt Departure
5. RUDRA - Brahmavidya: Primorial I
6. SLOUGH FEG - Atavism
7. WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM - Demo
8. GOJIRA - From Mars to Sirius
9. KLABAUTAMANN - Der Ort
10. DEATHSPELL OMEGA - Kenose

The following two albums were released in Europe 2004, but not the USA until 2005. Both were released LATE '04 so it would have been virtually impossible to hear them until '05 anyway, so they deserve mention:

SLUMBER - Fallout (see recommendation)
VREID - Kraft

Both the above are worthy of top 10 positions, and I certainly listened to Vreid as much as anything else last year.

Great releases from these artists that didn't quite make the final list: WITCHCRAFT, FALKENBACH, MANEGARM, HELRUNAR, and KRODA.

And lastly, two albums still outstanding (meaning, I've yet to hear them and I'm really interested to do so): RED SPARROWES, and SOLSTAFIR. (Why should I be the only one without hot boiling cum splashed across my face).

Frances the Mute destroyed all of 2005. A true masterpiece. Gojira and Kayo Dot added in 2006.

EDIT FINAL TIME:

1. The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
Meshuggah - Catch 33
Sunn O))) - Black One
Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze
Gojira - Free Willy Metal
Kayo Dot - Dowsing Anemone and Copper Tongue
Clutch - Robot Hive / Exodus

Top ten in no particular order:

Manilla Road - Gates of Fire
Holy Martyr - Vis Et Honor (EP)
Martiria - The Age of Return
Old Season - Volume One
Isole - Forevermore
All Souls Day - Into The Mourning
Dantesco - De La Mano De La Muerte
Thee Plague of Gentlemen - Primula Pestis
Slough Feg - Atavism
Madking Ludwig - Madking Ludwig

Honorable Mentions:

The Gates of Slumber - Like A Plague Upon The Land (MCD)
Jotenheim - Jotenheim (EP)
Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness
Twilight Odyssey - Twilight Odyssey
Planet Gemini - Wizard's Blood
Witchcraft - Firewood
Burning Saviours - Burning Saviours
YOB - The Unreal Never Lived
Confessor - Unraveled
Against Nature - Panoply & Appease
Reverend Bizarre - II: Crush The Insects
Candlemass - Candlemass
Centurion's Ghost - Sign of Things To Come

Non-Metal:

Iron & Wine - Woman King (EP)
Queens of The Stoneage - Lullabies To Paralyze
Deadboy & The Elephantmen - We Are Nightsky
The Evpatoria Report - Golevka

I still don't get how Queens of the Stone Age aren't metal.

Also, whenever I see the bandname Isole I think of that one movie with the dude running around yelling YOU'RE A FARKING ICEHOLE!!! for 90 minutes.

I gotta start a cult.

Don't worry! The llama shall return. And it shall be most triumphant!!!

Also please note that this is an occurence where the internet mimics reality: I'm constantly getting yelled at for completely meaningless shit. :loco:

Great list. I'm surprise to see you ranking the latest Bruce Dickinson on #2. I was fairly disappointed by it...especially considering the quality of his 2 previous albums. King Devil Hill is such a killer song though...

My list is pretty much unchanged in two months, but only I've added a few things that I heard late, like the new Der Blutharsch album, the LFE comp, the Werkraum EP and H.E.R.R. Here's the pared down list from the big list.

I think I enjoyed all of these albums the same amount more or less, ordering them seems difficult.

Albums:
Moonsorrow - Verisäkeet (Spikefarm)
Sólstafir - Masterpiece of Bitterness (Spikefarm)
Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness (Metal Blade)
Nokturnal Mortum - Weltanschauung (No Colours Records)
Der Blutharsch - When Did Wonderland End? (WKN)
Mournful Congregation - The Monad Of Creation (Weird Truth Productions)
Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio & Spiritual Front - Satyriasis (Cold Meat Industry)
Red Sparowes - At The Soundless Dawn (Neurot Recordings)
H.E.R.R. - The Winter Of Constantinople (Cold Spring)
Drudkh - The Swan Road (Supernal Music)
Triarii - Ars Militaria (Eternal Soul Records)
Helrunar - Frostnacht (Lupus Lounge)
Of The Wand & The Moon - Sonnenheim (Heiðrunar)

EPs/Compilations/Singles/Other shit that doesn't really qualify as an "album":
Werkraum - Kristalle (Ahnstern)
Negurã Bunget - Inarborat Kosmos (code666)
Der Blutharsch - Live At The Monastery (WKN)
Current 93 - At Sunset Black Ships Ate The Sky (CD Single) (Durtro)
Death in June - Abandon Tracks! (New European Recordings)
V/A - Looking For Europe

Reissues:
Current 93 - Thunder Perfect Mind 2CD (Durtro/Jnana)
Sigrblot - Blodsband (Blood Religion Manifest 2LP (Invictus/Ajna)
Agalloch - Pale Folklore Wooden Box 2LP (Profound Lore)
Agalloch - The Mantle 2LP (Profound Lore)

and possibly that DIJ - The Guilty Have No Pride reissue I got the other day, just out of general principle since I love the crap out of that band in the gay way.

Can someone do me a favoUr and just post:

1 x yousendit of a Red Sparrowes track
1 x yousendit of a Solstafir track

Both from their latest albums.

I know I've missed them before, but you know how it is.

Actually, I thought the new Bruce Dickinson was phenomenal, especially considering he had to follow up Chemical Wedding. It was also an album I simply listened to a lot (and that has to count for something) -- I pretty much left it in my car stereo for the entire last 6 months.

Songs like "Soul Intruders", "Kill Devil Hill", "River of no Return", "Power of the Sun", "Devil on a Hog", and "Tyranny of Souls" show Bruce at the top of his game. So 6 out of 9 songs being 'excellent' and the others being 'good' translates to it being a strong album.

And yeah, "Kill Devil Hill" is one of his best Bruce songs ever. That said, I thought "Power of the Sun" and "Tyranny..." were pretty damned decent too.

Just a great, great album and I like it more than Accident of Birth, so it's the 2nd best Bruce album IMO.

By the way, that guitar solo in "Soul Intruders"??? Woah.

@Thanatopsis -- thanks for the links. I'd forgotten I'd heard those already so it's a done deal.
