My new side project

Fuck yeah. Like it alot. I really didn't expect some uber Deathmetal. Technical, heavy. Drums sound kinda flat, but like you said, that'll be sorted. Got a seriously epic quality for sure. Wondering how you had time to record an album between all the festivals and touring. Crazy. March of the Parasite has some moments that remind me of Anaal Nathrakh. An excellent effort. Very hybrid. Doesn't sound much like anything else. Only bands I could compare it to are probably Vehemence and Luciferion (and of course Anaal Nathrakh).

There is a "check out this band" thread if you didn't know.

oops. *checking out* ;)

damn, i'm still downloading, and i was secretely hoping too. :/

edit: how do you pronounce that name anyway?

@wildfyr: :D btw, your dolphin winks at me. :hotjump:

@rahvin: ha. ha. :p

* There is a black metal-ish-sounding bit in the middle (3rd segment) of this rough mix medley - that I downloaded on Sept 1 @ 11:20 PM CST. :p

* The vocalist reminds me of Chris Barnes a little bit.

* Liking what I hear so far but then I like this kind of stuff. ;)

* *Imagines* performance in small sweaty metal club with lots of beer flowing and hair flying... \m/

@Siren: Does the dolphin offend you? :erk:

@wildfyr: no no, don't worry. me and dolphins get on just fine. besides, he's a cutie. ;)

I'm listening to it right now and am semi-impressed: there are some nice parts here and there, but overall it sounds rather clicheed. Of course, as it is just a medley with short clips, it's probably too early to tell.

Anyways - and now I probably sound like an ass - I truly hope Niklas doesn't "waste" any of his song-writing skills with this. I mean, I have been secretly quite happy that DT-members have in general stayed out of too many side-projects - and I think it shows in the quality of DT-songs. I know this new project won't ever rise to compete with Niklas' dedication to DT, but I still wouldn't want to have a single possible good riff go to Laethora instead of DT.

Well, perhaps I'm just being too jealous. :p

I see what you mean here, but I took instant consolation in the fact that they sound nothing like Dark Tranquillity. It's much more deathmetal, like with almost chromatic melodies and such... something Dark Tranquillity never really do. None of the riffs I heard on the Laethora clip sound like they would work in DTs stuff, and like wise, I can't see Laethora breaking out into melodic DT style moments either. It was either rhythmic deathmetal or pummeling blackmetal almost. So i'm not worried at all.

@King Chaos: i wouldn't call laethora a death-metal band.. the sound is fucking close to the black-metal style, especially the drums.. sometimes it feels a bit like some "gothic" influences have found their room in such a heavy mix.. but i don't think u can call it Death-Metal, as far as by "death metal" u mean what i mean (e.g. Death) :)

Well if it ain't deathmetal I'd call it deathcore... but then I'd be annoying people bringing the xcoresx into it.

I mean, it sounds like All Shall Perish, but now and then with a bit more of a genuine european edge. To me, the european sound makes it pretty much death metal. But I agree, alot of it sounds like black metal too. So it's hard to define. Lets not think too much about it. Let it be hybrid.

'black metal' is what came to my mind too. except that i can't envision mr. sundin going nowhere near stuff like satan spawn the cacodaemon lyrics-wise, so it has to be "unstupid black metal". does that still qualify as black metal?
