My new side project

@hyena: well i meant black-metal as for music-genre.. of course i wouldn't see niklas face-painted hailing satan, cutting lambs' throats and so on.. i think we must distinguish blac-metal as a musical genre and black-metal as a lifestyle - which isn't the most intelligent of things -... i know that often they're connected, but as it seems in laethora, there are exceptions to that :)

Really not my thing at all but i have to disagree with villian: I dont see how a person cant write straight death and black metal riffs, along with DT songs, along with jazz, pop, cowboy music, blues, and basically whatever you can think of without lacking in any of the projects at all. Creativity is not something you have to save to avoid running out of it, it just something that comes to you so who the fuck cares if it comes to you in the form of blast beat riffs worthy of a black metal act? Unless Niklas himself says otherwise this would have 0 impact on DT.

King Chaos & Misanthrope: Sure as hell I hope you two are right. And yet, I still get a somewhat uneasy feeling every time I hear someone from DT has worked with another band or a side-project (Nicklasson in Luciferion or Brändström in Tiamat, for example). Deep down I know it is unrational to assume that working elsewhere would reduce the dedication these guys have for DT, but it doesn't remove my uneasiness. As I said, I'm probably just jealous over this band.

And no, I have never felt like that for any woman (how pathetic is that!). :p

-Villain

I really dont know where those who said black metal got that. Black metal? Please, where? If your understanding of black metal is blast beat with keys, then Im not surprised. This is classic old school death metal and nothing else. The only part from the medley having some nano traces of "black metal" is part 4. I liked this preview, its just good death metal in the vein of recent Blood Red Throne, although not that brutal. Keep it up Niklas! ;)

I hate to brake it to you but everything comes to an end, even Dark Tranquillity will eventually reach a point when they said all they could said with their music ( I consider them wise enough to break up when it happens but even if they dont, the day will come ). In the ( remote ) case Niklas is truly losing interest for Dark Tranquillity to me it means he gave everything he could to the band and i wouldnt want him to remain on the band anyway if that happens.

Ill stop my heresy before some fans throw their monitor out of their window in rage but think about it: this is true for almost every band, all things come to an end, specially good things.

Well said, I think the end is the most important thing with all people and things they are involved in. Actually, when I think of it, the end is all that matters, or should matter. It gives sense to all youve done before. Welcome back Misanthrope!

Yeah, sounds alot like what I was saying in the thread about 'what their next album will be'. The future of dark tranquillity is actually an exciting one from my stand point... I mean, they will do different things with their music, and I antisipate it'll be special. I suspect they'll go completely the opposite direction to laethora, Which is one of the reasons I was surprised Laethora was so damn heavy. But Im glad of the result.

there's also a chance/risk (however people choose to see it) that laethora has almost no impact on future dt songwriting. after all, it features one dt member; one that´s credited for only a few songs on character...

If that happens, i pray to all beings high (ie DT) that the band turns ebm. :D

Yeah we already went over that. And I agree with you. I don't even think it's a chance. It just won't have an impact on dt.

I was basing what I said earlier on Niklas' urge to do something more experimental in dt. I sort of assumed a side project would get that idea out of his system, but no laethora was the opposite direction (when I think 'expeirmental', I think sounds scapes and electronical stuff - Ambient and less driving) going for less melody and more pummel. In my eyes a real treat.

oh, now i see where i went wrong. i interpreted "I suspect [dt]'ll go completely the opposite direction to laethora" as "I suspect [dt]'ll go completely the opposite direction to laethora because of laethora".
so i thought you meant niklas would get (the urge to make) laethoria-ish music out of his system and future dt would sound different because of that.

nevermind, then. :)

Hmm. Ebm seems to be the direction of choice among a few long-time dt fans. Does that stand for emo black metal? If so, can someone please supply a current definition of the genre if it exists? You know how the lines can get blurred with all the crossover going on and whatnot. ;) And to prove I'm not a complete slouch, I did Google "emo black metal" just in case, and I checked out a few of the hits on the first page. These seemed like a good start:

emo styles: http://www.fourfa.com/styles/index.htm

No mention of ebm that I could find there. ^

emo fashion: http://www.fourfa.com/fashion.htm

"Spock Rock"

This one was a larf too.

emo rules: http://www.entertainment.inuk.com/music/genreguides.html#anchor34725

:D If I understand emo correctly now, a hybrid of emo and black metal might be okay. As long as the cheesy vampire imagery is absent. I don't know about the annoying, loud whiny voice stuff, though. :p
