My personal thoughts on the Kamelot situation

I know this is a ways off (if even a possibility) but if Fabio were asked to join do you think he would accept and most likely be forced to leave Rhapsody?

Ya i agree hes a perfect fit for rhapsody but i guess i have no idea about financial differences. Id assume kamelot makes much more money then Kamelot although thats a complete guess. So if he (totally hypothetically) was asked i wonder if he'd accept is all.

Guys, come on now...

Fabio is not gonna become a permanent member of Kamelot. Seriously, I don't see how anyone would actually consider that a possibility.

This is the case. His career is musical theater, and as I understand it, he's not willing to put his career on hold to tour with a band. Local shows and festivals seem to be it.

I'd love to hear Blad sing a Kamelot song or two, but he'd be a bad fit for Kamelot since he's not interested in touring.

Is there a crying emoticon on this board?

I very much doubt Fabio would ever permenantly replace Khan with Kamelot. Rhapsody is his cheese-filled world of dragons and elves, and Kamelot just doesn't have enough of that to keep Fabio entertained. This is probably just a temporary thing, which is good, because it will give me a chance to see that %^$*er live.

I agree with you - only that's not the reason why Fabio wouldn't leave Rhapsody to join Kamelot. :)

Also, all bands take time to grow. Their first one with Khan isn't exactly stellar.

I believe that album (Seige Peilous) was completely written before Khan joined the band, sans for one song (Irea?). Either Vanderbuilt was to sing on it or somebody else and things went south - but the show went on, just like it (Thomas) will do again.

You've gotta believe that Thomas or the management believes that Khan is still going to return after this little hiatus, or they wouldn't be getting a temporary singer, they'd be looking for a permanent singer and announce that he's not coming back. The fact that they are keeping it open ended means that the door is at least slightly ajar. I would still support Kamelot, unless the new singer completely blows, but I've got a buddy who is kind of a Khan fanboy, and I think there's probably more of those than there are people like us here. I'm very curious to see how the tour draws with Fabio, and I hope it does well, but I'm not totally optimistic that it will. The Kamelot shows I've seen the past few years have been very well attended for a band of their ilk.

I kind of believe that Kamelot's audience will decline more without Khan than DT's audience will without Portnoy. Curious to see how both do.

The first thing I noticed when the new dates were announced was the downgrade from the Nokia to the Gramercy in NYC. They're probably going to want to play it safe this time around by booking smaller venues.

Did you read Glenn's post thoroughly?

..Just give us something so we can schedule and confirm things.

*Silence*

Roy is remaining silent; making it difficult for Thomas and the rest of band on how to best proceed. Naturally, they don't want to be dicks and make such a HUGE decision too quickly.

There's a big difference between replacing a drummer (even if he does get the crowd amped) and replacing a singer (who is the focal point).

Well, if it is ajar, I bet it's barely a crack. Seems, as Jen has pointed out, that he's really put the band in a bad spot. If he doesn't want to continue with them, he should say so.

I think they have a temporary singer, because they need to tour NOW before the CD has become old news. I bet they're looking intensely for a permanent replacement behind the scenes, but will take their time. I sincerely hope they don't do the whole "open audition" thing like DT and NW. Debacle imo.

I was in the gee-hope-he's-okay camp; even burnout is an understandable impetus for his actions. But to drop everyone's collective ass in the dust for *religion*? Short of the Final Judgement occurring right this minute, I can't imagine what about it was so important that it was worth screwing over so many people - why he couldn't have completed at least his short-term obligations, or even not gotten involved in a new album and tour in the first place if he knew this was coming.

Class act, that.

That's a problem I've always had with Kamelot, especially the recycling of melodies. They're GOOD melodies, mind you. Just seems to almost always be just a slight variation on the same.

Hoodaman that's really well said. I could be wrong, but I think this likely may reflect a bit of what Khan may have been going through, and maybe explaining the nature of how uncertain this has been playing out. Only a guess, but how many ways can you mix up the same thing? In the words of Solomon, there's nothing new under the sun, and if all that exists is under the sun..bored to death, end of one's rope, running on fumes, and crisis of faith are phrases that come to mind. My impression is it can lead to a seriously suffocating ill reality.

You've never seen him/Rhapsody live?

What's the real reason?
