OK, I don't know shit about Devin Townsend...but he sure comes up here a lot. Somebody turn me on to a good title...? Also, what kind of stuff is it? A mix between what other bands. I gotta know 'cause I keep seeing him in people's lists and in other threads, generally speaking.

Enlighten me....

Devin's my favorite artist, but I'm pressed for time, so you're gonna get the short explanation:

He's the vocalist/guitarist/brain behind Strapping Young Lad, and has also done vocals for Steve Vai, and production for December, Lamb of God, Soilwork, and been involved with a slew of other bands. All this in addition to his 5 solo albums. Originally all done as separate projects, he's consolidated them all under the moniker The Devin Townsend Band. It's all prog rock/metal.......his albums, in order, are:

Ocean Machine - Concept album related to the ocean, heavy, crunchy, melodic

Infinity - Insane, no two tracks sound the same, some of the most "out-there" music I've ever heard

Physicist - "Speed-metal-pop-songs"

Terria - Huge sounding, written like a stream of consciousness, sort of like a heavy metal Pink Floyd

Accelerated Evolution - went for a much simpler sound, more verse/chorus structure, but still heavy, melodic, excellent singing and screaming, and he flexes his guitar muscles more than he has in the past.

Thus ends the abridged version of his career overview, for more shit, check out www.hevydevy.com, or PM/IM me.:headbang:

I dont know if you'd like him...I dont know what your tastes are.

Devin's music is completely different on each album...

If you want something Heavy download some Strapping Young Lad stuff like Oh My Fucking God or All Hail the New Flesh

Everything else he does, while "metal" at the core, is pretty mellow.

For some crazy shit check out anything from Infinity...

For some unbelievable melodic metal check out Physicist...songs like Kingdom or Material or The Complex...

Ocean Machine is pretty mellow..check out songs like Voices in the Fan and Regulator or Funeral

From Terria I would recomment songs like Earth Day, Canada or Stagnant

From Accelerated Evolution I would definitely check out Away and Dead Head...Sunday Afternoon as well.

It's really hard to describe the music...It's VERY emotional...that's why his fans are so rabid...they completely connect with the music, like I have!

Hope you enjoy@

THanks for the Devin Townsend stuff....I will check it out. Since I started asking, a few people have told me "Terria" ....so that's where I'll start I think.

Also, the Voi Vod record (somebody jumped on that) was quite good I though. I do know the old stuff.....I just dig those riffs man. Also, I forgot "How the west was won"....which somebody else put here, and I did listen to that a lot too. Oh, and the Zep DVD as well. The live show from Royal Albert Hall is one of the best Zeppelin releases ever, methinks.

i have to kind of agree with DreamingofUr i used to really the opeth message board as i would find out all these cool unknown bands, now it seems iit ain't so great the only one of the above that does anything for me is enslaved
