Top 5 albums of the year

Kushantaiidan

SPASIBA AX.
The year is nearly over, so it's time to sum up what you found to be the most surprisingly good albums of the year.

What albums shocked you, blew you away upon first listen, only to find the true masterpeice within weeks later, leaving you with the cd on repeat for the last 6 months?

post your top 5

1. BWP
2. Emperor: Promethius
3. Terria
4. Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on heavens door OST.
5. Dimmu Borgir: Puritanical

hmm.. this was harder than I thought... oh well..

Well only naming 5 is hard enough but putting them in order is pretty close to impossible :)

BWP
Borknagar-Empiricism
Evergrey-In Search of Truth
Finntroll-Jaktens Tid
Devin Townsend-Terria

I still have yet to hear "Utopia AD" that will probably kick something off of there :)

Opeth - Blackwater Park
Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia
Emperor - Promethius
ummm.......:loco:
Bjork - Vespertine
Cradle of Filth - Bitter Suites to Succubi

There!

Blackwater Park
Katatonia - Last Fair Deal Gone Down
Anathema - A Fine Day To Exit
Bolt Thrower - Honor, Valour, Pride
My Dying Bride - The Dreadfull Hours

Blackwater Park
My Dying Bride - The Dreadful Hours
Amon Amarth - The Crusher
Marduk - La Grande Danse Macabre
And the fifth one... hmm maybe Tool - Lateralus or In Extremo's new one

But I plan to get Katatonia's "Last Fair Deal...", too, and maybe the new Emperor album...

I got "Puritanical..." by Dimmu Borgir but it disappointed me :(

1. Opeth - Blackwater Park
2. Katatonia - Last Fair Deal Gone Down
3. Anathema - A Fine Day To Exit
4. Tool - Lateralus
5.

1. Opeth - Blackwater Park
2. Opeth - Still Life
3. Opeth - Morningrise
4. Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
5. Opeth - Orchid

See what this band has done to me? It's clouded my vision. I actually think #'s2-5 came out this year, since I only discovered Opeth in 2001. I know other stuff has come out that's good, but I can't see it through the Opethian fog.

Opeth - Blackwater Park
Ulver - Perdition City
Emperor - Prometheus - The Discipline of Fire and Demise
The Black League - Utopia A.D.
Solefald - Pills Against the Ageless Ills

Bubbling under:

Tool - Lateralus
Björk - Vespertine
Anathema - A Fine Day to Exit
Madder Mortem - All Flesh is Grass
Circle - Taantumus

Here's my list. #1 was easy to choose, the next three were quite hard to put in order and the fifth one was quite easy as well.

1. Kreator -- Violent Revolution
2. Arch Enemy -- Wages of Sin
3. My Dying Bride -- The Dreadful Hours
4. Emperor -- Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire and Demise
5. Destruction -- The Antichrist

Opeth - Blackwater Park
Tool - Lateralus
Kreator - Violent Revolution
Radiohead - Amnesiac

That makes four excellent ones. The new Megadeth was a bit so-so, a few classic songs as always which sadly come with the obligatory filler...even though there was much less filler than on the few previous ones, they could have accomplished so much more.

Amnesiac is their most original album :loco: Anyone who says its not as good as the others, if not better, just doesn't understand what they are trying to do. So ner :p :err:

But seriously, I respect radiohead so much more now they have evolved, they've done something new (well to them), and not only did it take guts I really like what they are doing...

for the most part, i agree with godisanatheist...

i have a huge amount of respect for radiohead, because they have proved beyond a shadow of doubt that they are a brilliant band. therefore, i appreciate any direction they go in.

of course, i don't consider amnesiac to be as good as ok computer...or the bends for that matter. still, it's a fine album...much better than what most bands are capable of.
