here's a track off of Severed Survival ... this disc has the dirtiest production in DM EVER ... never heard anything as good since this ... pure raw, sludgy death ... the bass sound is punishing.

Spiritual Healing- didn't quite have the freshness of Scream Bloody Gore and Leperosy. I generally see it as the weakest Death album, though James Murphey had some great moments.
Human is great as the technical elements are impressive, but there's still some brutal riffing. Probably the best of the three mentioned.
Individual Thought Patterns- continues the trend of melodicism and technicality. Probably their last album with any real elements of brutality.

It is. FOr now I'm sticking with the first two. I see they were both re-released with liner notes and such. They dont appear to have been remastered, which is good.

Seems like a good choice, J. The first two Death albums are the truest death metal releases, and though I love Humand and Individual Thought Patterns, I don't think of them in the same way.

I think you can safely go the opposite of what I say, since I really like the technical stuff:
Individual Thought Patterns was Death's best release by far, Unquestionable Presence is Atheist's best, nothing Pestilence put out is worth owning, Therion only got good once they started doing the classical thing, and I haven't heard the remaining bands.
