need a new pda/cell phone

Get the Galaxy S. It's a great phone. If I were you I'd get the Droid X or Droid 2. I love my Droid 2.

Get the Galaxy S.
With the caveat that you have to forfeit Google and use Bing.

I've been a BlackBerry guy for years. And there are still things they excel at; call quality, e-mail delivery, profile customization, and BBM. However, if you don't explicitly need one for business, I'd say their day has passed. If VZW had the iPhone, which all signs point to them getting in January, I'd go with that. However, if you're looking for your upgrade now, I'd get an Android device.

He's in Your-up, so it doesn't matter to him. Android phones have all the customization that a black berry does, but doesn't have BBM. Apparently there is an app to do the same thing, but I'd rather gtalk or text; I do however, see the appeal of BBM for business people.

smartphone mania is totally out of control.
plans are still waaaay too expensive but I guess companies like Verizon need to make up where they lost on land lines.

As of yesterday, I no longer have any type of cost related to a mobile phone. Woot! I wish I had all the money back I've spent on phones over the past eight years. Assuming a modest monthly cost of $50 and not including the cost of four of five different phones over that time period, I could have well over $5000 in my pocket right now. In eight years, I never actually *needed* a mobile phone. NOT. ONE. SINGLE. TIME.

Yes, but if you are on your parents family plan, it's cheap as hell :). $30 for text, data, and voice.

yeah, I am on the parents plan also ... I pay for my parents :( ... about $140/month total.

yeah I worked full-time through college as well and still managed to finish with a 3.6 ... oh and we didn't have even computers at that time to make life easier.

i remember literally being nervous when I bought my first computer in '95.
1 GB HD with 32mb RAM and 15" monitor ... about $2400

I had a Netcom then AOL email right off the bat.

Then I discovered internet porn.

'96 was when we finally moved on from DOS.... only ever used windows 3.1 for paint.

A colleague has th HTC Desire (smartphone), with a customized firmware + kernel installed, and now gets about 4 days of battery life with average usage. Which is nuts. Its pretty nice, but I'll wait on the HTC Desire Z because it has a keyboard.

that computer in 95? that would have been one AMAZING DEAL considering we paid the same for our dx4/100 with 540 mb hd, pc-dos 7.0 and 8 mb ram in 95. you sure that wasn't 96 bro

100% it was 95 ... was working in the electronics store and it was around this time of the year that I bought it. September or so. Came with 3.1 with a Win95 upgrade coupon.
It was made by "digital".

Android phones have all the customization that a black berry does...
I hope you're right, as I suspect my next phone will be an Android device. However, I've read from several folks over on the BB forums, who switched to Android devices and returned, that the ability to customize ring profiles, doesn't exist natively and the 3rd party apps that add the functionality are weak.

People actually care about customizable ringtones? I didn't even think about that. My droid doesn't have that.
