That's what I couldn't understand... how McDonalds was banned but there's a Burger King in Katoomba

Eitherway.... if I had the choice there is plenty of places in the area I'd gladly take over Maccas
The Burger King was already there. Plus, it utilises part of an existing building. McDonalds wanted to build one of their free-standing buildings in the middle of town (actually from memory, they wanted to put it at Echo Point).

I remember when the Blaxland Mcdonalds was built. It opened in 1991 but had taken 5yrs of negotiations etc. for the approval to go through. They had to have the sign no higher than power lines plus limited trading hours and a whole lot of other stuff to abide by.
When you think about what the mountains represents and the surrounding environment there is well and truelly no need for any of these type of businises needed up here. The entire mountains has so many brilliant family and local run returaunts and cafes. You can get dirt cheap pizza that is as good as Topalino's in St.Kilda, 2 places within 5mins drive from our home. Many places up here have one awards and also many feature in the Good Food Guide, which doesn't happen unless your nosh is top notch stuff.
If you come here and complain about not being able to find decent cheap food your a moron.
If we could afford it we would be eating out once a week, and I am one who much prefers my own cooking to many places of eating out until comming to the mountains. I used to go out and many times not enjoy the food as in comparrison to my cooking it tasted terrible.

They're not chickens! They're genetically engineered monstrosities with 4 legs and no head that grow 9 times as fast as normal chickens! Everyone knows that.

No, they are definately chickens. If they weren't chickens then why the protestors from PETA standing outside the building the other day in chicken costumes hey?

Speaking of the amount of steroids that are in these chickens though. We had a rat that was so huge from eating all the waste chicken left in the bins over night, that is was setting off the alarms and clearly visible on the security cameras. It was about the size of a river rat. Massive as fuck, it could have ripped your leg off.

Maccas here contributes fuck all to the community.

They are one of the few businesses that donate nothing to local charities, events and functions.

They give a few kids jobs, I agree.

But there would be a lot more kids in jobs and a lto less vacant eateries in Main street if they weren't here.

Shannow's got a point. The restaurants and cafes of Leura and Katoomba contribute to about 40% of the local economy. If McDonalds opened up on the highway, that contribution would be slashed and places would go broke all over town. The local business community is keenly aware of this; the reason the cafes and restaurants here do so well is because visitors have to come into town to find something to eat, and in turn they visit the local shops and businesses. If McDonalds opened on the highway, people would go there to eat, then drive through town without stopping and Katoomba would be a ghost town in no time.

Yo Dreamy :)

Hopefully my Andy shirt will be here soon
