Turns out I need some tones that are not metal for muh new band (perfect forum to ask huh? haha:D). Don't really have much experience other then heavy tones with pod farm. I'm looking for that slightly distorted/clean/twangy sound. Not really sure how to describe it. Have not had much luck with pod farm, maybe i'm using the wrong sims. Are any of the other free amp sims that yall use better for this kind of stuff?

here are some examples of styles of tone I am lookin for.

Guitar Rig works great for what you're looking for.

here is a good starting point:
- passive pickups; single coils for more twang, humbuckers for less twang. les pauls are a bit dark, but strats and teles might do the job
- orange, vox and fender amps with a distortion pedal in front on mild settings

Also, don't be afraid to mix sims! I get some sick bass tones using guitar rig-->Pod Farm-->Recabinet!

thanks for the tips guys, I'll look into it. Guess I should look into another guitar other than my esp.

btw, I've come across another problem. It seems that I'm getting alot of static or something while I let chords ring out and with cleans. never had this kind of problem when I recorded metal stuff, well at least it was not audible. I'm running a pod gx right into a laptop which is connected to a samsung flatscreen. Could it be that, or maybe my cable? idk...
Here is the clip, you will hear what I am talking about.

never underestimate amplitude as well. In my opinion, amplitude is much better then guitar rig. Ive gotten some great tones using some of their fender amps as well as their orange and marshall emulations along with recabinet.

Get a longer cable and stand/sit farther from your computer.

Sometimes speakers/monitors can interfere with your pickups

EDIT: Just had a listen... doesn't sound like speaker interference or anything

could be, I usually don't spend more than $15 for a cable, guessing I should get a good one for recording though

I bought the Stomp IO from a car booty for next to nothing. but it did not come with any software or license to transfer, so I can not download from the website. So if any one has the drivers drop me a message and we can come to some sort of arrangement.
