NEW ALBUM Q42 017/Q1 2018

I think they should do more of these low pitch solos, such as here 2:30 - and 3:46 - like exclusively for two songs or so, it opens up epic possibilities.

Actually the first time Bodom were making ten songs was Blooddrunk, but they fused ideas of two songs with similar tempo to create Roadkill Morning. But I'm pretty sure they're not doing eleven original songs this time, the eleventh one is Knuckleduster... they didn't deny it.

I think that verse guitar nibbling thing will be technically enhanced (a bit more tense?), despite it serving the energy of the song like that. Some of the lyric sections are really cool and I hope they will stay, so Alexi won't change all the lines. Others are the usual modern Bodom, but yeah they're kinda ruining the song. Keep the rude parts and make the rest even more brutal, even more venomous spite and ruthlessness.

Slightly less keyboards would serve the song on certain parts, as it's pointless to smother a silky string line over rigid doomy riffs everytime. The keyboard at 1:12 and 1:20(?) is great, while the small piece at 0:25, 0:27, 0:29, 0:31 on beat one is not, remove those from between the riffs, rest of it is good. Maybe that Chinese chorus keyboard could be slightly sharper.

Alexi was the guest on Jussi69's Saturday show on Radio Rock last week and they talked about the album a little bit. It's a three hour show with maybe 10 minutes of Alexi speaking in between songs but I listened to it. So about the album he said they've got 9 out of 10 ready, just missing some lyrics still. Alexi says that this is the part of the process where he gets stressed out and starts to feel like he's run into a wall. But he thinks it will work out by relaxing a little bit and not thinking too hard. Then Jussi describes Alexi during writing process as "manic perfectionist", that all he can think about is finishing the songs.

But 9 out of 10? What's that 11 then?

Another idea for Knuckleduster: use the keyboard of Chokehold (live intro) in sync with the drums on the Knuckleduster intro, same pitch as the guitar at 0:09, 0:11, 0:13. I think a bit of that electronic effect would feel menacing in this song.

In case somebody doesn't know what sound it is:

Well sounds like that could be it. Or Alexi was tired and got his words mixed up lol. You never know. Knuckleduster is a damn good song and I feel like their "newer sound" could work with it well. But still I think it's kinda lame to put an old song on a new album,,,,,,, But I've heard so many hints about it during the last year or so, I wouldn't be surprised.

Ten days until they hit the studio so shit should be done. I think they're working on the last song and Alexi's doing the lyrics.

How do I get a feeling they've been working on a hurry schedule for the last songs. Even tho they had so much time. Well, time isn't really the thing, it's creativity.

Just different wagon, but it's an old school coal-burning steam train. I guess we're first gonna have to hope they don't suck on the new album like pretty much every 90's metal band does these times. Then you have Hypocrisy who straight up admitted they're not gonna force out an album when there's no inspiration. But I believe at least Alexi still sincerely likes this type of music, which is nice because he's the composer...

Agh... Isn't it kind of outdated to "give nothing" to spark enthusiasm? Are we supposed to get all hyped up for a muted clip of a guitar audio line...

It's always a decision whether to spark enthusiasm by giving away nice bits slowly, but that also waters down excitement from the big boom moment when the whole thing is released.

Here's a suggestion: "sacrifice" one song from the album to release a one minute clip of a single band member playing his sections on it, each at their turn. First week Jaska playing his drums for the song, next week (whichever order they record instruments in), last week Alexi recording his vocals... and last some clips of mixing and mastering... I think that would be really cool and let us fans live in the moment with the recording process.

Hey guys, Daniel Freyberg just posted a story on instagram with a really nice song in the background, could be from the new album..
