New CD's that you have gotten recently

well he is back to buying vinyl again....

This is true. You can not beat it sonically.......
As much as I love my iPod and what not, MP3s are compressed as sh*t....
I don't care what bit rate is used to rip them.
They are amazing for convenience, but not sound.

Working from home more regularly has increased my opportunity for listening to vinyl.

I am not concerned about labels, as during the 90s, I had well over 1,000 pieces of 12", 10", 7", and even 5". I don't need to justify a damn thing.

One thing I do know is there is a market for vinyl, and you bet your bottom dollar that if I ever start an original band, I would certainly look into releasing a 7" EP.

I dunno what your M.O. is for buying records -- OG presses only, picking up new tunes on wax, buying represses, etc -- but the vast majority of the "big" releases these days, your Earaches, Back on Black's, etc, are just CD sourced pressed onto vinyl, at least for represses anyway.

I have ZERO interest in re-releases........

Yeah, its just about being able to pick up albums I want for a decent price on wax.
I don't consider myself a collector of vinyl anymore.
Those days are long gone for me, at least financially.

So to answer your question, I am mostly interested in original pressings, not so much new tunes on wax, as those are ridiculously priced, and are forced collectibility by its limited pressings. Cool if you are a collector of the band though I guess.

exactly....I dont think majority of the people buying vinyl realize this. I can see them all sitting around at home alone thinking...."this sounds so much better"....or...."I hope there isnt a skip or scratch on this song".

LOL - Ummmm... you two are forgetting a MAJOR factor here.

The albums which I want on vinyl were RECORDED analog (IE - reel to reel).
Most material recorded today is so damn compressed before getting produced on ANY medium.

I honestly have not heard any newer release on vinyl, but I suspect it to sound compressed, as compared to the warmth of an analog recording on vinyl.

there is a huge market for vinyl....my brothers old band couldnt keep thier vinyl in stock. In europe they sold out the day it came out. The downside is lugging that stuff around on tour if you are a smaller band.

I buy vinyl because i think it's cool pure and simple. The giant artwork that goes with it is great and the fact that you hae to become involved in the music by flipping it almost make you forced to listen to it otherwise you could get lost by doing other things while listening to a cd for 50 mins straight.

It all depends. Like I said, it's mostly the re-presses that are sourced from CDs. Not every band gets caught up in the loudness/mastering wars you know...

Lugging stuff around is part of being on tour.....guitar/bass cabinets aren't exactly the lightest things in the world.

Ok, yet you go on for pages saying that vinyl is just current hipster infatuation that is a worthless medium that will go away?? :loco:

it is though. I never said it should go away? I do believe it is the hipsters who bought it back. Christ....even movies nowadays have "hip" people with records in it. it was a big part of a storyline for the movie "Seeking a Freind for the End of the World". If it isnt a trend how come in the late 90's and early 2000's there wasnt much on vinyl and vinyl EP's? The vinyl thing is a trend....Jason, you yourself just got back into it.

I think the packaging for vinyl is the best part. Large cover art, larger booklets and stuff. I just think the medium itself is a pain since once it is scratched that song is ruined. Plain and simple. Plus storage is a huge pain.

This is the key thing.....
YOU just think. It's your personal opinion, and that is fine.
The reality though is there IS demand for it, it's been around, and will continue to be around. You don't have to buy it.

As for me following the trend? It's not like I just ran out and bought a turntable.
The one I have I have owned for over 10 years now I think.
I am not running out to spend $30 on PENTAGRAM and CANDLEMASS reissues or anything.
What got me back into it was when I bought a lot if vinyl from Pat.
Once I put the needle on the record and heard the warm tone, esp on the bottom end, it rekindled my appreciation for the sound.
As I said, I am not interested in represses or anything.
I am only seeking classic stuff on wax, that was recorded in analog.

It's your opinion and that's fine.
You don't have to like it.

Awww hell yeah!! (Literally!!!)
HourOf13_333.jpg

well I guess we should blame Jason for the cold weather....hell just froze over because he bought something.:yow:

LOL - yeah, this year has been REALLY slow for me in getting new stuff.
The reality is I just don't have the $$$ to get stuff.
It sucks but what are you going to do?

I have gotten more downloads than physical CDs this year.

Anyhow, the new Hour of 13 smokes! Some great heavy riffing.

We gotta get these guys before MDF does!

I dont see MDF getting them. They only have a few slots open and one is the main headliner.

I have been on a HUGE ordering kick...though the last of the year. Have to save for Christmas and stuff.
