I wasn't expecting much after "Maha Kali", but hey, it's the same guy who wrote the milestone albums that are "The Somberlain" and "Storm Of The Light's Bane", some of that talent should still linger sómewhere, so I stubbornly kept my hopes up somehow..

But what I've heard so far... damn, WHAT HAPPENED??!!!

This is some easy-listening melodic (Death?) Metal, where's the edge, the atmosphere, the fuckin' DARKNESS??!!! There are hardly any fast parts anymore, let alone a blast... It's all mid-paced cheesiness.. And I can't fuckin' stand the word "(anti-) cosmic" anymore .

The sample song 'Starless Aeon' is really good, I think. If the rest of the album is like that, I will be satisfied.

I don't know about you guys but I like this album very much. Has a nice Melo-Death touch to it ala Old In Flames and Old Dark Tranquillity. I didn't want to hear another Storm or Somberlain. This is ace.

I´ve listened the album... nothing special, without the old atmosphere, simple & poor composition.
Years ago was my favourite band.
Sorry.

Man I fucking love "Somberlain" and "Storms..." When I heard they're back after all these years, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the new album...
But then I heard two samples songs on their myspace page... They're basically melodic death metal. If InFlames started playing stuff like this we would all be like "Wow, they're back in shape etc..."
BUT THIS IS DISSECTION DAMNIT!
It's not supposed to be just another happy Melodeath metal band. The atmosphere is not there... And neither is the black metal influences, I gotta hear more songs till I can judge completely,... But I'm gonna try yo listen to this one before buying it!!!

I just can't ignore the fact that it's Dissection I'm listening to and it's them playing this powerless music, perhaps if it'd been an entirely new band with no connection to Dissection I would've liked it a bit more, cause there are some OK solos and acoustic parts.

But even when I listen to it as just melodeath, it fails to move me, it just sounds so powerless, so lame, so 'nice', so not brutal.

yeah you guys are right, they are now really similiar to old In Flames.
the acoustic break in starless aeon sounds cool but I prefer the Jester Race

anyway they lyrics are even worse than on the older ones:
Master - Typhon - Apophis
Dweller beyond the seven stars
Crowned red king - Set-hen - Amam
of the eternal black skies
Thou art the rayed one - Erbeth - Saatet-ta
Lord of the shining force of night
The Wrathful majesty - Bolchoseth - Hau-hra
of anti-cosmic might

hey how old is mr.nödtveidt? it seems in prison he just had child books
this pseudo satanic shit is really boring. :puke:

Exclusive: DISSECTION Frontman JON NÖDTVEIDT Commits Suicide - Aug. 18, 2006

DISSECTION frontman Jon Nödtveidt has committed suicide, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. More details will be made available shortly.

Nödtveidt formed DISSECTION in 1989 and released two full-length albums with the group — "The Somberlain" (1993) and "Storm of the Light's Bane" (1995) — before he was convicted in Sweden of felony murder of 37-year-old homosexual Algerian Josef Ben Maddour in 1997. He was released from prison in 2004, at which point he restarted DISSECTION.

DISSECTION announced in May that it would split up imediately following its final performances in support of its recently released CD, "Reinkaos". The band was subsequently forced to cancel its two previously announced appearances in North America (Sept. 1 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA and Sept. 6 at B.B. King Blues Club in New York City) after Nödtveidt was denied legal entry into the United States as a result of his conviction.

DISSECTION's most recent album, "Reinkaos", was released in May on The End Records.

...this surely came unexpected... tragic...

back in the beginning of the 90's jon would come hang out with me and jonas in our apartment to share some beers and talk about the scene, oh god those were sweet times. we also played together with katatonia and dissection, and shared the same "problem" with no fashion records that we tried to resolve. i hadn't seen him for nearly 10 years until very recently where we got the chance to talk for a while, he was very sympathic, mature and yes, seemed happy with what was going on, which makes me believe (partly based on the statement from his bandmates) that whatever his motives were, i hope it was done by his true will and the right thing.

R.I.P jon nödtveidt
