New Evergrey album (is going to suck)

The album leaked about a week ago and I could not resist being that I will purchase the album anyway. The album is not the best album ever but its not bad at all. All the songs are short compared to the average prog song but overall
i'd rate the album a 7 of 10.

i could care less if the album is "prog" a term overused and applied too much. metal is metal to me thats all i need to know. there is good metal and bad metal. and this falls in between. the production to me seems too PoP sounding especially in the chorus sections. the riffs, someone said it sounds like lamb of god, i dont see that all LOG is crushing and heavy. this stuff is just generic chugga chugga riffage nothing special or nothing they havent done b4 just not as tasty as the other stuff they have done. the songs themselves are very formula based. and the cd as a whole just lacksthe musicainship that they usually apply to their stuff. I thought their last cd was weak too but not in the musicianship way. maybe they just reached their peak with recreation day.

After listening to the whole cd its pretty safe to say that their style has definitely changed, but it was about time for them to do that. The cd isnt horrible, there are some great tracks like the title track, Unspeakable, In Remembrance, Still in the Water... The riffs are a little more generic but Tom's vocal melodies are still as emotional and powerful as ever.

Im interested in it's live performance.

Don't say Tom's Vocal performance is "weak" because that's definately the wrong word. It may not be what your taste is, but i've heard Tom sing on all things and his vocal qualities are not weak.

The Evergrey album is probably heading in a similar direction to what Rammstein did after Mutter (whoever is a fan) Good, but lacking in that Energy that made them them. If you get what i'm saying....It's good for evergrey to have some variation. The only thing that will be bad is if they continue to go down this route with the next album.

I'd look at it this way...

Consider the old evergrey Whiskey....Pretty strong powerful stuff, a lot of people love it. MMA is diluted. Whiskey and Coke. Still good, and more people like it than whiskey. But think if you keep diluting it, you're not gonna have any whiskey left....and nobody wants that!

I don't know, I like Coke. Sure beats Pepsi...

In Remembrance is probably my favorite track off the CD so far.

Umm I'd like to make clear...probably I misunderstood ProgLover. If I did,I apologize.Anyway, for DoomsdayZach, my intention was not to WHAT? j00 liek POWER METAL LYRICS? j00 OFFEND ME!!! ARRGHHEGH!!! like a mad ignorant, but express my total dissent with the people who belive metal is having an "almighty" kight fight a great dragon,or a gigantic, great army fight the creatures that come from hell.Id guess you will understand this time and do not post a slightly based opinion in something you dont really catch."WHAT? j00 liek POWER METAL LYRICS? j00 OFFEND ME!!! ARRGHHEGH!!!"...Never speak if you dont know why you are doing it.

I'm not too big an Evergrey fan, but I absolutely love Inner Circle, I find it to be a very powerful album. Recreation Day isn't bad, In Search of Truth is pretty wow. I haven't heard the clips, looking for the leaked album to check it out. But I dont' see how it can be horrible...but then again Metallica DID release St. Anger :(

Awesome disc. I am digging it with each listen. Yes, its not the safe and comfortable Evergrey we have come to known, but it is still definately Evergrey. I cant wait for my signed preorder to show up.

This is like the TOT of Dream Theater. Half of the fans like it, the others don't. I am on the "others" category :) Well, it is not as bad as TOT on the other hand :p

LOL I can't get over how super real the choir vocals are in "still in the water." Sounds like a sample from Propellerheads Reason that is unprocessed and raw.

other than that I've heard most of the album and it doesn't stand a chance to 'recreation day.' I can't really judge it properly yet as I need to give it a maybe a few more listens, but so far it's very very very veyr weak. Sounds like an attempt at commercial success if you ask me.

the title-track has the worst chorus evergrey has ever done, imo. the only song that's stuck out is "the curtain fall"

Its not a bad album at all...Just if you talk about it with your friends refer to it as the newist album, or MMA...because saying monday morning Apocalypse will get some emo kids on your ass...And all the metal kids in their beating all of you with their mighty guitars!

But yeh, its a pretty good album. Its probably going to be an album that will attract new fans more than it will older ones! Which is probably the point! They wan't ot become more widespread...Gain new fans-new deals and shit! While keeping the old ones of course!
