New Evergrey album (is going to suck)

Nope, it is because we like that unique style of a band, and when it changes, normally some of us, or most of us having a hard time to get used to it. Some people like me, don't wanna get used to it, cause we don't have to. The new album is ok, but the old ones were more than ok.

that's not true, Opeth and Nevermore changed their sound slightly and they still rule imo. Opeth is on a bigger label now and they are still not sellouts. On the other hand, evergrey... But hey I hope they will play their old stuff on this in flames tour.

Do you have any idea how many people called Opeth sellouts when they released Ghost Reveries? As for Nevermore, I dont think anyone can deny the awesomeness that is Godless Endevour

I heard some, but not as much as this thread about evergrey's new album. There's still a faithful crowd of opeth fans across the messageboards, and even at my school. Doesn't look like a sellout band to me. I remember when the grand conjuration radio edit leaked and lots of people hated it, myself included, but when perdition came out and the rest of the album, the chants of sellout faded away.

What's the big deal about bands trying to change their sound? It's not like they're completely changing their genre. Nevermore and Opeth did in fact change their style, but they didn't start playing a different type of music entirely. They're still playing metal and playing it well. So I don't see why the smallest changes are so significant in a person's opinion about a band. Besides, the bands don't make music to satisfy the masses. They make music, because they want to make the music they want, and if they feel like taking a new direction, that's fine. They don't just write songs according to the public's standards. They write it according to their own. (Unless the producers get their hands on the work.) But if a band tries to change their direction, I'll give it a try. And if I don't like it, I'm not gonna call them Sellouts.

After listening to the new album some more, it seems to have lost the touch, the special feeling you get when you listen to the other Evergrey albums.

It's a decent album and all, but it's just missing something that their other albums had...hard to put my finger on it.

I disagree with you whole heartedly, I think they are getting better and are adding not missing anything. Thats just your opinion. God help us all if Symphony X trys a new direction, what would the world come to

I would love to see SyX try something new. that doesnt mean it has to sellout. many bands add new dimensions to their sound and stay true to themselves. there is a difference to that then dumbing down and in hopes to get airplay. chances are evergrey wont accomplish this. and they just lsot the original bite of their songs. what ya gonna do tho bands gotta try to evolve. sometimes itll piss people off sometimes itll work.

Finally, an album from a band that I can really enjoy. Music's been so meh for me for the last year or so.

As for this new album, it's definitely Evergrey. It's not In Search of Truth or Recreation Day, but it's definitely Evergrey. It's got Tom's voice, and his voice is UN-FREAKING-DENIABLE. From the clips, it sounds like it could be OK on the standard of everything else out there, but as far as Evergrey goes, it seems like it'll be good. Not groin-grabbingly wonderful, but good.

They (Tom) are PURPOSELY changing their sound to appeal to more people. The music is less complex and sounds nu in many places. The keyboards are nonexistant. They (Tom) made a big deal out of the album being produced by the same people as BON JOVI.

Evergrey are selling out.

I'm not saying the album is bad, and I'm not even saying it couldn't grow on me. But anyone who denies the selloutage is kissing ass.

I wouldnt put words in someones mouth if I were you. You BELIEVE they are selling out. Oh, and anyone who uses the term "Sellout" when reviewing (anyones) music, gets no respect from me. Clearly you cannot be swayed by logics.
