There are couple of alright songs on Death Magnetic. For example, All Nightmare Long has some pretty cool stuff. But the album is nothing spectacular. I have better albums to listen to.

But I was surprised about how shitty the mixing/enginerring or whatever is. Not anywhere near St. Anger, but the album is over-compressed and clipping. I've heard bedroom recordings, where the guitars sound better.

Yeah, there's really no excuse for the shitty mixing/mastering...especially a band like Metallica than can obviously afford the best of everything Apparently someone remastered the album from the Guitar Hero download and it sounds much better, we'll see

I personaly have heard 3 full tracks and all the clips, I have to agree with most of the comments here ,
One of my buddy's is a Diehard fan and keeps trying to get me to check the whole album out and now wants me to go see there show thats comming up
I have seen them enough I said and really Don't care to hear there newer stuff live anyway , He's one of the people that think the new album has that old sound but I don't hear much of it.
I probably will check out the whole new album , well I will end up having to I jam with this guy i been talking about and im sure he's gonna have it going threw the PA LOL
But I Don't have good feelings about what im goint to hear
I was a Diehard fan Until The Black Album after that i checked out everything that came out and didn't like a whole lot of it , I think there done IMO

i didn't bother trying to listen to it all, but i definately did not hear any 'old sound' in what i did check out. do they even remember what their first albums sounded like? coz from what they keep producing these days, it doesn't seem like it. anyway i feel that they are the ultimate of bands that don't feel the need to actually try to put out good quality music. it's the hollywood syndrome i think. they're too rich and too famous to care about making good work, they sign their name to something and people will buy it anyway no matter how crappy it is. p.s. that cover is goddamned awful..

Also, is it just me or does Lars sound a bit rusty? Or has he always been that bad and I never noticed?

I'm liking the re-did vocals by Matt Barlow on Charge to Keep. I'm so happy Matt Barlow has come back, because Iced Earth is not very good without him because they're average at best, but Matt makes it something special.

No, not just you....he's never been that great but his drumming on this sucks. Agreed on the tune being "very tolerable" though.

I think it's a Stratovarius cover, brah.

This album didn't impress me much. Not bad, just not my thing. I have a couple friends who are crazy about it...bleh.

Good Metallica songs: One, To Live is to Die
Meh Metallica Songs: Everything else

This album hasn't changed that, IMO.

Booh metellica, I wouldn't pay for this album. But I def' will be downloading it or getting it off a friend just to see what all the hype is about. I agree with zachs original statement though. Metallicas best, does not make it top of the line album. But I have yet to listen so we shall see.
