New NEVERMORE album!

Is it just me or are there a few bits in that vid posted where anyone else can hear a Blackberry text alert tone? Especially at 0:43 and 1:59 after he says 'heaven' on the left side of the mix?

Well my theories on the "lack of (insert your item here)" come down to a few things.

As far as the "production": it wasnt Andy, so the lack of cohesion between parts is to be expected. Listen to Warrels solo CD it has the same thing going on.
As for the "mix": a producer can only work with what hes given. Its unfair to judge this to DHIADW or TGE cause those were 100% Sneap this is Winchers / Sneap
As for the songs: I definitely feel some of the things that went on with Nevermore during the recording of this CD caused a bit of a rushed job. I love the fact that there are more "airy" and open parts for Warrel to do his thing over, but it just seems like there was lack of ideas or lack of being "pushed" to get great performances for whatever reason, blame Pete not Andy ;)

I really feel if Andy had this project from the get go we would have a more "solid" feel of the entire thing. I do really love the guitar tone on this though. much more-so then the previous records. It doesnt sound like the typical Nevermore "Mesa mixed with something" tone. Its very very raw.

I really love the fact that Jeff layed off the Bb djent djent on this too. His leads are amazing, shredy yet very tasteful, ts like classic Loomis :) EOR and TGE had way to much arpeggio / scalular (sp?) work and sounded like big exercises. He really lays back on this one and showed hes got the finesse and feel to be with the best of em :)

I like the CD alot actually, I think moonrise and emptyness unobstructed are my fave tracks so far.

I give a big meh to that.

Luckily for me, Loomis says he's in the process of working on his second solo album and that he's hoping to release it this fall. :D

There are some questionable moments with the vocal phrasing, but overall I think this is a brilliant album. Nothing stands out production wise that really bothers me personally. Nevermore has been my favorite band since Politics came out though, so I'm probably a little more forgiving and biased.

^ It´s overdue someone saying this. I also think, it´s a great album! Full of great and emotional moments, for that especially Warrel is responsible. Awesome playing technique and riffing, as well.

Though a big Question Mark for the melody lines of the title track, It sounds a bit off..although intentionally, of course.

I guess my point wasnt being conveyed. My previous post was complementary other then the "lack of" section which I was referencing those who have an issue with the production.

The album is absolutely brilliant imho. I love it every moment (ok maybe not the Rise! Rise! bit). But i feel the album is very very solid and really represents what Nevermore is. The last 2 albums were all djent djent riffing and arpeggio filled duggery.....

I love this CD from start to finish. Its hasnt left my playlist since I downloaded it.

NOW CM GET ME MY FUCKING BOX SET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God damn I hate CM Distro :(

Finally got the vinyl in the mail today. There are a few standout tracks on the album, most notably the title track, but the song order is very strangely chosen, and it's hard to get into the album as a whole because of that. It feels to me like there's an overabundance of slow/depressing ballad-like tracks, but it may simply be an issue of pacing.

Loving the guitar tone, solos, as well as the bonus cover tracks. The t-shirt is nice too, this was a killer deal.

^ No, seriously WHAT THE FUCK? Warrel sounds great, what the HELL are you guys smoking?? Are we listening to the same record? This is his best album since DHIADW. And I'm on track 4.

I'm with you on this one. The album is fucking immense. It has a few spots that I don't enjoy as much as some of the older stuff. I can't get how everybody loves Moonrise more than the rest of the album, I consider it to be one of the weaker songs. There are AT LEAST 3 older Nevermore songs that are rehashed into that one including Narcosynthesis, Engines of Hate and Shouting Fire At A Funeral off Loomis' solo album. Warrel's vocals on The Day You Built The Wall and And The Maiden Spoke are fantastic. And as a whole I love the album and I love the production.

I also agree with Ermz about TGE's production. It's most definitely really, really good, but I can't really understand the crazy hype over the production, or rather, the mix. The musical content is absolutely top notch!

I got the box-set, awesome package by the way - Travis Smith's artwork is incredible. I love the record but it took a couple of listens to grow on me.

After TGE I think we all kinda expected something ridiculously technical, bursting at the seems with swirling arpeggios, but we got something a little more understated and dark. So I get the mixed reactions I guess.

Saw them live last week too. Why do they play in fucking clubs still? They are the real deal, metal at it's finest, yet stupid trendy bands fill the big venues... Oh well... Within the cold absolute, the cold brutal truth, there is a pained angel

I want to see the video for Emptiness Unobstructed! They filmed it at the gig i went to of their's, does anyone know when its going to be released? The pit to this song was awesome!

I think TGE is their milestone for both music and sound quality. It just works perfectly. Everything is really, really clear. The drums sound extremely good. The guitar tone is really heavy and aggressive with a nice, bright top end, without being too harsh. The music has tons of energy, and there's just a strong feeling of confidence showing through... and even though I've never really liked Warrel's vocal style at all, I can easily tolerate them on songs like Born. There's a ton of cool vocal ideas on TGE.

The new album seems way more tame/mellow overall. Most of the songs are slower. The music has a lot less going on. The guitar tone is a little muffled and not as aggressive sounding as on previous albums. Don't get me wrong, it's still good. It just doesn't blow me away like TGE. It seems more like Warrel's solo album than a Nevermore album. Maybe that was on purpose though, since Loomis has a contract with Century Media to release two more solo albums. I love Zero Order Phase musically... it would be awesome to hear a Loomis solo album with the sound quality of TGE. It would be really cool if he could work with Andy for a solo album.

I think it's pretty obvious why they are a band for clubs and not big venues...
It NEVER depends on the bands quality, just its accessibility to broader audiences. Nevermore's style (be it songwriting or performance) was never too easy on the non-initiated  for the most people it takes time to get used to their very distinctive riffing and voice...
Think about it, the most popular bands are the ones with relatively simplistic songs filled with hooks. I think only DT made real success with complicated over-the-top musicianship...

Not that I don't wish the band all the success, but I'd prefer them continue playing the clubs. I personally hate the stadiums and other large venues, they don't provide the proper band-audience contact. In the clubs it's always more close and if nothing, the audience is filled with real fans, there are no "tourists" which would attend simply cause "the big band from the media is in town, let's check it out".

I agree, but you know, they deserve allot more exposure and recognition, even inside our small metal community.

I think it's Dane's vocal style that really alienates people, it's a love it or hate it kinda thing. That being said maybe it would be interesting if Loomis had some guest vocalists on his next solo records!
