New OPETH

Ah, fuck. Well odds are that Pelican is opening the Chicago show then.

Pelican is decent from what little I've heard. It's, from what I can gather, instrumental progressive stoner rock. I can actually see Mikael and company digging what Pelican does to an extent so I guess it makes sense that they're on the bill. As for how many people in the audience will be into it, I can't be too sure. Oh well.

Larry,
Couldn't you guys call the club and ask if there are open slots?
I am sure some promoter there has to have at least heard of Novembers Doom.
I assume you guys have promotional packages to send to the clubs, which would show that you guys are obviously a professional band.

I have only been in smaller punk bands myself. Though I have gotten to play some larger clubs like the Empty Bottle, Double Door, etc from hounding the clubs until they knew who we were.

Maybe I am making it seem a lot easier than it probably is in reality, especially since we are talking about the Disney owned House of Blues.

But for fucks sake, Rictus Grin got on the THERION show last night!!!
How the hell does one account for that?

I downloaded the album. Hey, I'm not a Opeth fan anymore ! :)

The new album... I don't like it very much, not my favourite style. Anyway, I won't forget the fantastic moments I had listening 'MAYH' or 'Blackwater Park'.
Hail Opeth, and enjoy the success ( "Ghost Reveries", has sold just under 15,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release )

According to RR's site, Pelican supports until the 24th, then Nevermore. Which means I'll be seeing Pelican here in Dallas. BUT I have tentative vacation plans for Chicago sometime from the 26th-2nd of November, which means I could be in town for the Opeth/Nevermore show on the 26th.

How do you guys miss getting on the big Chicago bills? I remember mentioning to you cats in Swano's forum that I spent 4 years at school in Chicago, and I never saw you get any of those juicy House of Blues gigs (and even crappy bands like Kovenant got some of that action). I mean, I know connections and stuff help, but goddamn, how many more Havoc Hates, Kovenants, and Armored Saints have to go through the House of Blues before we can get us some goddamn NOVEMBER'S DOOM!!! HALLELUJAH!!!

Also, although Pale Haunt Departure is one of the better death metal albums I've heard in a looooooong time (omfg I called you guys DEATH METAL, you should be so proud!), my favorite album over the last year was Sentenced's funeral album. I don't know when this came out, but Vintersorg's The Focusing Blur was also excellent. Some unique albums came out this year, for once. :)

Got to say that I'm loving Ghost Reveries which is a potential album of the year for me. Being something of a prog fan with metal tendencies it's right up my street :D
Saw their show in Manchester a couple of nights ago and they were superb :headbang:

We played at the House of Blues a few years back with Opeth and Amorphis actually. Amazing show too. Where were you? haha!

Haha, I probably graduated by then. I DID see Amorphis at House of Blues myself, when they played with Moonspell (I think it was Kovenant / Lamb of God / Moonspell / Amorphis, but my memory is shot). Kovenant sucked (it's like they swore off their brilliant Nexus Polaris album forever, they played only their newer industrial crap), but otherwise it was a great show.

I'm in upstate NY now, so you guys better come to NYC at least so I can get my death metal fix! I'm really interested in hearing how you guys sound live; in fact, you guys should conspire to get Dan and Nightingale to come with you! It would be a public service, playing in the world's most awesome city, with the world's most awesome death metal and prog mind, with the world's most awesome death metal band.

Lamb Of God played on a couple of different underground death metal type tours a few years back or so. I like them actually, I've seen them numerous times over the years. I can't recall whether or not they were on that Amorphis/Moonspell bill or not.

I bought the new opeth when it came out, at the first listen I wasn't intriguied to listen more. The Next day I heard the whole album and I was Hooked!! Oh and if you like Pelican, listen to Red Sparrowes, there instrumental too!

That tour was Amorohis, Moonspell, and Kovenant, and Armored Saint was added as a headliner for 5 or so of the gigs in the midwest. Lamb of God was not on that bill.

Yup. That sounds right. Lamb of God played with The Haunted, Dimmu Borgir, and Cannibal Corpse (headlining).

It makes me all teary eyed that someone else remembers that tour. :)
