new to metal need some guidance

In defense of my recommendations, I don't think that someone who likes Disturbed would be intimidated by a lot of classic heavy metal from the 70's and NWOBHM. Same goes for stuff like Candlemass as well. Also, the reason I recommended stuff like Dissection, Opeth, Edge of Sanity, Katatonia, Sacramentum and At the Gates was due to him already having listened to some Wintersun so...yeah. I thought this out.

I had H.P. Lovecraft's self-indulgent posts in mind. That said, I do think you could have thinned it down to have a better impact. While I think your choices were fine, it's a little long for an intro list. Realistically, it would take him half a year to process all the albums you listed. I think if you recommend too much music, you run the risk of essentially recommending nothing.

They're not actually making recommendations. They're just making a list of bands they like.
And if I like them, it doesn't render it any less of an actual recommendation. I'm pooling a bunch of bands I think are good from the top of my head, it'll help him develop his taste and broaden his horizons. Irrespective of whether he enjoys them or not. I'd want someone to do the same for me.

I listen to thirty new albums every week, top to bottom, and even if it takes a while, who cares? That's part of the beauty of it all, the endless discoveries there are to make.

I'm not planning to make some big list but he has low-tier stuff like Halford solo band and outright trash like Dethklok in his posts.

A pity no one recommended him some Devourment, dISEMBOWELMENT or Portal since they are all great bands he should listen to (despite the fact that he's barely into metal already).

@albaraa You have many good suggestions here. My taste tends towards the power end of the spectrum, so let me add these bands to the list:

Accept, Sabaton, Nightwish, Savatage, Jon Oliva's Pain
Stratovarius, Yngwie Malmsteen, Angra, Anthem, Hammerfall
Iced Earth, Angel Dust, Kamelot, Voyager, Evergrey
Ensiferum, Edguy, Judas Priest, Korpiklaani, Votum
Riverside, Helloween, Ordan Ogan, Need, Myrath
Grave Digger, Ghost Ship Octavius, Dragonforce, Blind Guardian
Black Label Society, Dragonland, Overkill, Manimal, Iron Maiden

Testament, Overkill, Artillery, Witchfinder General, Accept, Riot, Dokken, Ratt, Twisted Sister, Primal Fear, Obituary, Ozzy Osbourne, Alcatrazz, Loudness, Budgie, Gorgoroth, Anthem, X Japan, Flower Travellin' Band, Stryper, Nuclear Assault, Scorpions, Sodom, Tankard, Holy Moses, Dark Angel, Death Angel, Dark Funeral, Grim Reaper, Pretty Maids, Iced Earth, Maniac Butcher, 1349, Vulcano, Sepultura, Inquisition, Flotsam and Jetsam, Onslaught, Root, Annihilator, Sacred Reich, Impaled Nazarene, KISS, Emperor, Armored Saint, Quartz, U.D.O., Stormwitch, Razor, Hour of 13, Wolf, Rammstein, Pantera, Halford, Judas Iscariot, UFO, Atrophy, Spellcaster, Bullet, Enforcer, Bulldozer, Sabbat (U.K.), Carpathian Forest, Angel Corpse,

The list would probably be longer if I had heard every band on the list.

Overkill, Artillery, Witchfinder General, Obituary, Gorgoroth, Scorpions, Riot, Sodom, Impaled Nazarene (first album), Maniac Butcher, Sepultura, Inquisition, Root and Emperor are definitely not filler bands. What the fuck.

None of the bands he listed are filler. He may not personally care for them, but that doesn't render them filler.

I guess you could make a case for Overkill, early Emperor, early Sodom and maybe Root.

I own albums by alot of those bands and I don't consder them bad or anything, but in a thread where you recommend bands to a brand new metalhead, bands like Witchfinder General, Impaled Nazarene, Inquisition or Artillery are at best tier 3.
