In defense of my recommendations, I don't think that someone who likes Disturbed would be intimidated by a lot of classic heavy metal from the 70's and NWOBHM. Same goes for stuff like Candlemass as well. Also, the reason I recommended stuff like Dissection, Opeth, Edge of Sanity, Katatonia, Sacramentum and At the Gates was due to him already having listened to some Wintersun so...yeah. I thought this out.
And if I like them, it doesn't render it any less of an actual recommendation. I'm pooling a bunch of bands I think are good from the top of my head, it'll help him develop his taste and broaden his horizons. Irrespective of whether he enjoys them or not. I'd want someone to do the same for me.They're not actually making recommendations. They're just making a list of bands they like.
I listen to thirty new albums every week, top to bottom, and even if it takes a while, who cares? That's part of the beauty of it all, the endless discoveries there are to make.I had H.P. Lovecraft's self-indulgent posts in mind. That said, I do think you could have thinned it down to have a better impact. While I think your choices were fine, it's a little long for an intro list. Realistically, it would take him half a year to process all the albums you listed. I think if you recommend too much music, you run the risk of essentially recommending nothing.
I was specifically referring to the two big posts by Keith Richards for President.
I'm not planning to make some big list but he has low-tier stuff like Halford solo band and outright trash like Dethklok in his posts.

The list would probably be longer if I had heard every band on the list.
None of the bands he listed are filler. He may not personally care for them, but that doesn't render them filler.Overkill, Artillery, Witchfinder General, Obituary, Gorgoroth, Scorpions, Riot, Sodom, Impaled Nazarene (first album), Maniac Butcher, Sepultura, Inquisition, Root and Emperor are definitely not filler bands. What the fuck.
I guess you could make a case for Overkill, early Emperor, early Sodom and maybe Root.Overkill, Artillery, Witchfinder General, Obituary, Gorgoroth, Scorpions, Riot, Sodom, Impaled Nazarene (first album), Maniac Butcher, Sepultura, Inquisition, Root and Emperor are definitely not filler bands. What the fuck.
Bands like Judas Iscariot and Hour of 13 are like the definition of filler...None of the bands he listed are filler. He may not personally care for them, but that doesn't render them filler.
