I have one of those books from 1968 that contain ALL of his stories. Great shit for bathroom literature time. I laugh the poo out. And he has one called The Gold Bug that's a pirate treasure story that isn't the least bit cheesy either.
Chances are that it was a Nevermore reference. I believe both Matt Stone and Trey Parker like the metal genre and the two actually met at Berklee in Boston.
There was even another Nevermore reference that was mentioned last year a couple of times on the forum. Even though the face on the shirt was Edgar Allen Poe, look at the lettering:
"NEVERHEADS THOUGHTS ON CARTMAN DREAMING ABOUT WARREL DANE?!"
Poe's characters are often angry, but not his writing style -- 1984 has way more angst than anything he wrote.
The newest "South Park" episode had "cartman" saying something like: "Every night , I see the same dream." This is similiar to lyrics in " I Am The Dog". I can confirm this.

...sounds like Groundhogs Day.
punctuation is invaluable.i thought he was referring to 1984 being written by Poe.
that sounds like a great class...Taking a Gothic Lit class right now. Just started reading the Alienist. If anyone's read it, I'd like to know if I'm in for a borefest (even though it's pretty good thus far).
