NFL 2014

Nonsensical coaching system? A QB with "back problems"? lolok.

For both the Cowboys and Giants, you overlooked key coaching and system changes/adjustments. Yeah, Dallas' D is going to be in the bottom 5 unless a miracle happens, but the offense is going to probably be in the top 5. The reason Dallas will have more than 5 wins is a weak division. Neither the Redskins nor the Giants are scaring anyone (at this point). Merely splitting division games gives Dallas 3 wins, and I think they can find more than 2 in their other 10 games. Hell, even the Niners suddenly aren't so imposing with all the losses on the defensive side of the ball. Not saying that is a win, but I'm not chalking it up as an auto loss either.

Linehan will significantly help the good Dallas defense get better. The Giants on the other hand, are learning a whole new system, and none of the receivers appear comfortable yet nor moving in that direction.

The Panther WR corps was terrible last year, I would say the new corps is at least marginally better. I think they will regress but due to losses in the secondary. But how did Atlanta get appreciably better?

Yes, the coaching system is absurd and I don't see how you could deny that Romo's back plus age is a concern. Maybe nothing will happen, but nobody would be surprised if he went on IR. But heck, even if he misses a four game stretch, they're probably going 0-4 with Weeden at QB, regardless of opponent.

And really don't see how the Panther's receivers are better. Avant and Cotchery are middle of the road 3/4 guys, not starting material. I guess it depends on your opinion of Kelvin Benjamin.

Could you please elucidate the absurdities of the Cowboys coaching system? Last I checked, they have a HC/OC/DC and all the requisite positional coaches like everyone else, plus an old guy wandering around, and also Monte Kiffin (Jerrah joke).

Yeah Romo is getting old, but I don't see how his back is any more concerning than any other QB in his age grouping (mid 30s). On top of that, Dallas has been improving the OLine for the last 3 years, and Linehan/Garrett have voiced support for the run game, the preseason showed it, the defense demands it, and Murray/Dunbar can handle it. I don't think Romo is going to be taking the past career norm 35 sacks or whatever this year. If he does happen to go down, that can happen to anyone regardless of age. But uh, yeah Weeden has inspired little confidence. On the other hand, how many backups do give confidence?

I'm not saying Carolina's WR corps is great. I'm saying they are *marginally* better than last years unmentionables. Steve Smith is a WR3-4 now, and he was WR1. Kelvin Benjamin should be an improvement, and I think Avant or Cotchery will be able to step up as a WR2. Any of the 3 are better than Ginn.

did I miss the Jets defense becoming bad? I thought the Bills had one of the worst Corners in the league

the run defense is still good, probably will end the year #1 or #2 in run defense unless there are crazy injuries.

the secondary is different. the safeties are a bit sketchy but the CBs right now look like a lost cause. the starters were going to be milliner and patterson. milliner has a high ankle sprain and patterson was cut this past weekend after several injuries, a no show to a game, a suspension for the no show and finslly bad mouthing the owners. 3rd on the depth chart was dex mcdougle, out for the year after tearing his acl in preaseason. right now at CB the jets are fielding darrin walls, kyle wilson (who gets burnt a lot), antonio allen (a safety moved to CB a few weeks ago) and 2 guys they just picked up this weekend after being cut from other teams. one guy cut from the browns, who lead the league in preseason secondary penalties and another guy cut from seattle

russell wilson is the new chad pennington. has all of these great stats that make him appear as a top tier QB but in fact he is just throwing 3-4 yard dink-dunk passes and then receivers pick up 6-10 yards after the catch. wilson is a liabilty when having to throw passes more than 7 yards or so. of the 3 longer passes i can remember in the first 1/2 two were dropped interceptions by the packers and the 3rd was a miracle catch by zach miller on a clearly way overthrown pass

I'd so be a SeaHawks fan if not for diehard Dallas status. I love they way they play the game. The defense is swarming and hard hitting, solid run game, creative passing game, and the front office does a great job.

Rodgers looked frustrated all night. Excelllleeent

Yes he was. Because you're dumb.

I think he was laughing because I'm right. Russell Wilson is an Alex Smith style QB or my example Chad Pennington. He is not torching teams yet nbc was playing Wilson up like he is on the top tier of current nfl QBs. It was just ridiculous. Wow show me is QBR over the last 2 seasons and tell me only Peyton Manning did better. Thats because wilson throws 25 passes a game, 18 of them no more than 4 yards

I didn't believe in Wilson too much at first either, but the dude seemingly never fucks up, and seems to extend a few drives a game with his legs. His field awareness is excellent. It's not like he's had amazing WRs either. Harvin was hurt all of last year. He's much more risk averse than big arms like Cutler, Flacco, Romo, or Eli. He doesn't need take chances when the run game is great and his roster is generally stacked.

If you had talent evaluators in the NFL pick a starting QB for the next 5 years, he almost certainly goes in the top 3-5, with Rodgers, Luck, and maybe Brees being the only guys I'd place ahead of him. And that's probably without even considering his salary.

i have no issue with the guys play or style of play. he is an excellent decision maker. my issue was nbc acting like he is the next dan marino. long story short if the seahawks NEEDED wilson to put up big numbers in order to win like denver or the packers need he simply has not shown me he can do that. last year at one point there was a 3 week span where only geno smith threw fewer yards then wilson. seattle won those 3 games, the jets lost 2 of those 3 games during that span.

Rightly or wrongly, the media and a lot of fans evaluate players by championships, and Wilson has one and Marino has zero. Steve Young is probably a better comp. Or even Montana, who always played on incredibly stacked teams during an era where it was easier to keep a core of great players.

I'm not sure how good Wilson would be on a bad team, but I'd confidently say he's one of the 10 best active QBs. I agree that Wilson has things to prove. But I've seen him shred my team with his two-minute offense without throwing deep downfield. It's possible to score fast with intermediate passes and runs.

Carroll has been clear that Wilson is an excellent QB because he does specifically what he is asked to do, without making mistakes.

well thats fine. i can see that in the games. i don't need nbc though acting like this guy is elite and can throw for 300+ yards all the time if he was needed to.
