NFL 2014

Even still, i've seen shoving and whatnot for 'domestic violence' but he straight up rocked her in the jaw and she did nothing but yell at him over elevator buttons!? Christ, gotta draw a line somewhere.

God only knows how hard she pushed him. I mean imho I think she said some vicious shit and was being physical/getting tough with him. I'm not excusing what he did at all but there are reasons he did it.

Well I don't think physical is fair since the video seems to show them being peaceful-ish then into an argument then the hit, but maybe said something. I feel like if you do something that can anger someone to crack you like that, it's gotta be a pretty heated discussion and not that quick, personally

She did get charged with assault as well. I think it's funny when some guys have tried to argue that "well it was just self defense", the most enlightened of shrill responses are along the lines of "Would you knock out a 5 year old that hit you??" - thus affirming the childlike status of women in the mind of [these/those] supposed feminists.

That's a fallacious conclusion. It's just a fact that your average man is bigger and stronger than your average woman; even more common is a male partner being with a female partner that is physically weaker than him. Using that superior physical power to harm, abuse or control someone is what feminists quite rightly take issue with.

In Rice's case, he's a fucking pro football player. He's spent his entire life building his life to endure and inflict punishment on others, so assulting a woman is utterly unacceptable, regardless of if she him first or not.

I love the whole "U NO HIT WOMEN" rhetoric. How about you don't hit anyone save self defense.

Because this is a massive social issue that is seriously affecting the lives of many women and children. God, some of you have your heads so far up your asses that you have no idea what's happening in the real world.

It's like you're so annoyed by the fringe extreme of the feminist movement that you close your eyes to the impact these issues are having on so many people.

There are always excuses for a double standard.

I'm all for smacking a woman back if she is legitimately hitting you and inflicting pain. Have a little restraint if you're built like him though... No excuse for knocking someone out like that. You don't even need to bruise. Just enough to get the point across "***ing stop hitting me" That being said, if you're THAT much bigger than her, is it not better to simply restrain her?

Those aren't excuses, those are reasons that anyone without an agenda and the ability to reason can clearly see. You're just an irrational misogynist, no point in arguing with you about it.

I hate to pull a "NO YOU" here, but it really applies. You have a double standard that sticks women right back in the position of children who need Patriarchal Protection. The woman is a legal adult and picked a fight she couldn't win, unless the "real adult" (your argument) restrains himself.

1. In the example in discussion, Ray Rice's wife does little more than flick her wrist at his body before he throws two full on swings at her head. Her head then slams against a metal bar. If you honestly think this is a case of "two wrongs don't make a right" then I certainly hope your wife or girlfriend has an emergency plan in place.

2. Human beings are not created equal physically. We are all responsible for ensuring that we do not seriously harm another person unless it is truly necessary. If one person is significantly strong then another person- regardless of gender- then yes, it does mean that they are more responsible for for their use of violence. Ray Rice KNOWS he's strong enough to give someone brain damage with a single punch. His wife KNOWS her best punch (which by the way, she never even threw) isn't enough it leave a bruise. When each of them throws a punch there's a different in intent and a difference in physical consequence. So we don't treat them equivocally.

3. In the vast majority of domestic violence cases, the man is not acting in self-defense. But you seem fond of attacking extremes and strawmans, so I'm not surprised you're going for the "self-defense" angle (even though it's irrelevant to the example at hand, unless you are really so daft as to claim that Rice was in danger).

4. If the case is one where a woman is legitimately attacking a man-and by that I mean she is seriously trying to cause him physical harm- then I agree he has the right to defend himself. That does not describe the majority of domestic violence cases.

Oh shut up! I used to be in an abusive relationship, my fist hurt on a daily basis!

So it is only domestic violence if you are clearly stronger than the other person? There's that double standard again. There is no different in intent in general swings at the body, even if there is a difference in strength, and treating differences in strength between adults fighting as something in need of corrective "justice" merely places the weaker person in the position of a child, particularly if the weaker starts the fighting. Which so many pro-Janay(?) arguments on the interwebs have done. Like I said, she was charged with assault as well, so at least the law is functioning to *some degree* on that.Looking at the video its pretty clear Janay was trying to cause some level of physical harm. She is just apparently stupid and weak. Too stupid to find some other course of action than violence, too weak to achieve her aims, and too stupid to reconsider her course in light of the fact that yes, my football player fiancee can practically lay me out with a backhand.

My wife doesn't have anything to worry about because I do protect those around me that need it (as a member of the evilprivilegedwhitemalepatriarchy!). I'm just pointing out the contradictions of socialjusticyfeminism.

There were cuts and welts left on the child. How is the indictment dumbshit?

Got to defend the right of a parent to abuse their child, right?

I redact that statement in light of the rest of the information. The original releases said he was "being indicted for using a switch" which would be a massive overreaction. Only later was it mentioned he was actually being indicted for leaving open wounds on the child (that stayed open for days? wtf).
