NHL 2013 SEASON IS GO!

CHI@DET was a pretty exciting game today. Too bad Detroit is pussing their way out of the conference and these teams will only play twice a year. (I would have liked to see a straight swap of Winnepeg for Columbus or Nashville, but that's besides the point.) Felt like a playoff atmosphere most of the game, but both teams had some sloppy play, likely due to being pretty tired. I was worrying that the streak was stressing out the Hawks a bit, and it will at some point, if not already.

Best thing about the point streak is that barring a slump, Chicago has a good chance to lock up the #1 spot and not scrap for position in the last few games, while the #8 team will be fighting to the death. Rest is going to pay off big later on.

In spite of how good they've been all year, I'm a little worried that they aren't always explosive enough on offense. Might take a lot of 2-1 games to move on against disciplined teams, and luck can always get in the way.

Were it not for Ericsson's boneheaded penalty there would no longer be a streak to talk about :(

We dominated the second half of the game and Howard was outstanding, but guess sometimes thats just how it goes

First loss of the year that I'm not actually really upset about since it was really anyones game at several points

BUT

HOLY SHIT BABCOCK

GIVE PAVEL SOME ACTUAL TALENT ON THE WING

Give him Franzen for fucks sake I don't even care

Yeah, Detroit did play better for the last 30 minutes or so. Crawford was excellent. Even in spite of Detroit having more shots and chances later in the game, a lot of it was one and done. Either Crawford held the puck or the defense cleared shortly after a good chance. It pays off to do that and keep the defenders fresh.

P.S. Patrick Kane is sober and playing the best hockey of his career. He was sloppy for 58 minutes and still won the game.

Awesome game by the habs last night, they didn't let the Bruins size intimidate them and they didn't back down from the loose puck battles.

and Prust, that guy man... Why didn't the New York Rangers re-sign him I'll never know. The guy is a warrior.

All ill say about that one is it relates to a previous and ongoing problem in the NHL. THEY NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE REFERING...cause this sport is going to turn to shit. They missed calls both ways dont get me wrong. But the bigger issue is inconsistency and how defensemen can barely touch players these days. Also its a shame when a guy like Chara has to take matters in his own hands and retaliate wich i cant blame him because the refs miss blatant cross checks like the one on Seguin. Not the first time the Bruins had to deal w this shit against Montreal. Chara off the ice then for a total of 17 mins including a 10 misconduct. 2 pp goals then for Mon.

I really think you have to take into effect that this is a short season and thus they don't want players taking that hard of hits so easier/softer calls being made..if it happens still next year then i'm in total agreeance with you.

I hear you and defnly diff circumstances this season. Yet I've been thinking this way atleast for the last cpl of seasons it seems. Don't get me wrong I don't miss the days of two hand slashes and boarding etc being a common theme not called. Yet its now gone too far the other way imo. The Bs play a fairly rough style but I think they play the game hard and the right way. They surely don't flop around and in no way benefit from calls like some other teams do.

Shit is tough to watch at times. They actually called Lucic on a hold and the replay showed that he did reach for the player but actually missed...seriously wtf

I've only seen the B's play against us and sort of barely watched last night, but they seemed to learn the lesson of no physical hockey this year against us..we always seem to be the aggressor and it bites us in the ass

Its such a fine line. At times very aggressive heavy fore-check with guys like Lucic, Horton, etc. That's fine at times and can draw penalties but this and an overall aggressive team can also lead to committing penalties. Have also seen the same line fly up and down the ice (w Krejci) and score by going to net filling lanes instead of fore-checking to create chances. Bottom line, the Bs are a great 5 on 5 team...but they do not have an elite power play. As good as they are on the pk, they simply cant match-up and play the special teams battle. That's why seeing these silly calls and inconsistent reffing is maddening at times.

I'm sorry but, are you saying we flop around...

Claude Julien needs to look at his own team before he spouts useless garbage.

I agree that they missed the call on Emelin, but you also have to account for Chara being an idiot, going up the ice just to drop the gloves on Emelin, which blatantly gives him an instigator, costing his teams services for 17 minutes.

It's always the same story with Julien when Montreal wins, oh they dive and what not, do you see the Habs complain everytime we get beat by Boston. No, they move on. It's getting old fast really.

The refs are never gonna be perfect, so coaches bitching about it won't change anything, they'll always find something to bitch about in the end.

I'm not saying you're complaining at all, I'm just saying it always seems the commentators are always spouting the same shit everytime the B's get beat by the Habs. If Montreal was last place, none of this garbage gets said. I think there's a little jealousy on Julien's part, IDK.

I understand the Chara move and how it hurt the team...but I also don't blame him for doing it. Like I said if the refs aren't going to call penalties on Montreal sometimes players unfortunately have to police games themselves. How about calling the crosscheck... Christ the guy broke his stick on Seguins ribs. Then you respond by scoring on the pp and Chara probably doesnt go after the Hab player. But the Bs don't seem to get these chances like yes Montreal does.

The Bruins do need to move on here and shut up. But they have seen this shit happen in the past and commented on it even in games in wich the Bruins have won against Montreal. So its not bitching because they lost...its simply an issue with how teams embellish and more so the reffing which is a blatant problem in the league right now! Montreal players do embellish and flop around at times (Subban for starters) like pansies...wich is a reputation they've had for a long time. They know it draws penalties and it works in the Habs favor many times. To me its not how youre suppose to play the game but it is what it is.

On the game itself, Bruins most likely hang on for the W if it wasn't for both Ferrence and Mcquade playing probably thier worst defensive game as a pro. They've both been shakey this year and the Bs need to address this.

Fookin Chicago ya kiddn me with this shit! Goal under a minute to win it. I swear theyre going to lose in the first round...its only fitting.
