UMaine sent out an email to all the students regarding the shootings:



To my knowledge, this student was "outstanding" and his erratic behavior was the result of a mental condition that he (didn't) took meds for. There could have been no signs of distress around this guy before he spontaneously went postal.

Yea, he went to my high school and all the teachers claimed he was a excellent student and never thought he would do what he did.

There isn't really a good way to figure out who's gonna go postal until they do, but that hasn't stopped people from freaking trying to do so.

More proof that only irrational people who have mental problems which they are either not treating themselves for or the problem itself is not treatable are the ones who fucking kill people. I've made this argument before, but I believe that problems like this can be avoided by better parenting (though it's unlikely that will happen in a lot of cases), better checks to make sure people with mental illnesses or otherwise disaffected people do not obtain guns. Sure, it's discrimination...but it's a hell of a lot better than just giving everyone a gun.
