I like a lot of non-metal music, but it differs a bit from the lists I've read in this thread.

I saw Jonna Tervomaa live yesterday, and I enjoyed it a lot. Great singer.

Some others:

Poe (this is my favorite non-metal band)
YUP
Christina Aguilera
Natalie Imbruglia
Voltaire
The Cardigans
Garbage
Tori Amos
Anouk
Laura Pausini
Suzanne Vega
Jennifer Paige
Firebird
Melissa Etheridge
Ultra Bra
Genitorturers
L'âme Immortelle
Jessica Folcker
Nick Cave
Offspring

etc

but this kind of music is still my favorite:
NP: Arch Enemy / "Let the Killing Begin"

:)

Black Sabbath

Ay! Watch it!

OK, never mind, actually. They are metal in my opinion, however.

Fields of the Nephilim, Rush, Photek, Massive Attack, Tori Amos, Diamanda Galás, FLA, Jethro Tull, Genesis, Joy Division, CMX, Brendan Perry, Simon & Garfunkel, new Ulver, Patti Smith, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Camel, Björk, Ozric Tentacles, Autechre, King Crimson...and so forth.

A rather big part of my list of ultimate favourites is comprised of non-metal artists.

Unhallowed: I prefer Maija Vilkkumaa over Jonna Tervomaa. The latter one's not bad either, though.

Vilkkumaa is not bad either, but somehow I haven't gotten into her songs that much .. but that one song! What's it called .. it's got beautiful strings in it .. unlike her other songs that I've heard ...... well, that song I like a lot :)

Btw, why are the gigs always on weekdays??! I hate to go to work when hung over ;) Yeah, yeah, "why did you drink then blah blah" .. well I have a weak mind :)

Rush
Rush
Rush
The Beatles
Tool
Ultra Bra
Tori Amos
Radiohead
Yes
Marillion
(+most popular prog you can think of)
etc

Those are the ones I like a LOT and from whom I have many albums. Now that I look at it it doesn't differ much from my favorite bands, just throw in a few precious metal bands here and there, and "The Big O" at the top. ;)
Of course I love metal, but there are lots and most of the bands I couldn't really put in order like that...totally depends on my mood if I want Queensrÿche or Kreator.

Oh, and whoever actually had Opeth in there... *applause*

May I join the Finnish female artists discussion? Maija rocks over Jonna. She's also the one of the two who writes her own songs, in case that matters for silly purists like me! She has completely kicked my ass live everytime I've seen her. Puts many metal bands to shame, I might add. ;)
