Norther

+1. Especially "Of Darkness And Light" and "Unleash Hell" are awesome tracks.First album "Dreams Of Endless War" was a little bit like black metal. But just a little bit.Like Children Of Bodom's Hatebreeder.Death Unlimited is one of their best albums too.But I didn't like TDUS.I hope Norther won't release and album like CoB's "AYDY?"

I'd say it was more like death metal, but I see what you're getting at... And that's exactly why I like it...

Death Unlimited is a good album too, but it reminds me of CoB way too much

I love Norther, except for N. I think that was really just a rushed piece of shit that they could have made a thousand times better if they put some more work into it. In terms of consistent quality on their new releases in 2007/2008... Kalmah's For the Revolution > CoB's Blooddrunk >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Norther's N, imo anyways.

Thanks for heads up, I didn't know Kalmah released a new album. Will respond once I get it =)

I've lost interest in this band, a lot. Sounds cheesy, a poor Bodom rip-off, etc.

BUT

Of Darkness And Light keyboard parts sounds awesome. I gotta give them that.

Cheesy, yes. And the guy sucks at clean vocals. But I reeeally don't see where "Bodom ripoff" comes from, there is some similarity, but it's not that striking. If anything, why do people not compare Norther to Ensiferum??

Because one is an original, pioneer force in folk metal and the other is a good, yet not so original melodeth band.

^ Well it feels like there would be more connection, at least more than with Bodom. Plus, they have the same vocalist.

Well, Bodom aren't even close to Ensiferum, not at all. One band is heavily a folk metal band and the other is pretty much their own brand of metal (a mix of powermetal, neo-classical, thrash and melodeth). Now in the case of Norther, they are their own band with their own sound, granted, but it just happens that the similarity in the vocals to CoB added to the fact they have use keyboards in the same fashion makes people feel the have a common sound. It's the same problem that plagued Kalmah, and Pekka hated the comparisons to COB so much that he actually changed his vocal styling completely.

Hmm is that so. Is especially surprising since, once again Norther and Ensiferum have the same vocalist >.< But the recent vocals for Norther have been getting worse, so I dun like em anymore :p

As for keybs, they sound really different to me >.< Maybe tis just me. And then again, give people something to flame about, and they'll gladly accept it.

Same vocalist =/= same sound. Vortex for example is in like 5 bands, all of which have a different genre/sound. Same with Vintersorg. And a lot of other vocalists.

Nah, I much prefer bands that combine clean and harsh vocals... and Kride has a good voice imo - maybe it's a little cheesy in Frozen Angel but in the other songs her sings and does background singing it works great (Omen, A Fallen Star, Close Your Eyes.. and his clean version of chasm and wasted years beat the originals imo)

+1! and it makes them more unique.

Not really, there's probably as many bands that combine harsh & melodic if not more than those that just use one or the other... Besides nothing you can do if the clean vocals suck >.<

IMHO anyway

First of all...STOP DOING THAT!!!!

Second. Can you name me one? I have not stumbled across one yet...

What, dun like my annoying smiley? >.<

I can only name a few bands off the top of my head, but there's surely more, especially recently it's been a trend.

But please, Scar Symmetry, Soilwork and Disarmonia Mundi, Elvenking since their latest album; I also believe Blood Stain Child does as well. Oh! Also Haggard (how did I dare to forget!)

There is also a bunch of emo bands that do that (don't listen to them, dun ask), and some young debuting bands I've seen on Youtube or Myspace; Soulfly also counts to a certain extent (although it's really a pathetic version of growling, but it did sound pretty well on Apocalyptica's Repressed). Finally a bunch of random American "metal" bands who are not worthy of my attention that I stumbled across on Guitar Hero II =)))

In short, there's a bunch, but my memory fails atm, and I only know/listen to a limited amount of bands. Especially since this is a style of vocals I don't particularly like...

To put it simple: Asshole, Cocky, uptight p.o.s
fucking seconded, thats how he was when i saw him after a show.
well i love their stuff, but petri just keeps sucking more and more. there's no show he plays sober (sober = less than 1 promille), and his screams just SUCK nowadays. last show i didnt recognise death unlimited untill the second minute...

just my 2 cents
