Notable Release to Come 2013

On the bright side, they didn't humiliate themselves. If the song was written by anyone but Black Sabbath, nobody would offer a passing comment.
This. It seems most people approach older bands with (rightfully) diminished expectations, and then heap praise all over them when they don't completely shit the bed. I've never quite understood it. The logo isn't important to me, the music is.

Samples from the new Summoning.

Fuckin' A right. It's fine and/or dandy that older bands are still out there doin' their thang, but if it sucks, I'm not going to pay attention.

Back to the Queensryche topic: I have the remasters of Mindcrime, Rage For Order, and Empire and I FUCKING HATE THEM. Can anyone send me mp3s of the original CD pressings, or point me in the direction of them?

i have the original press of rage for order (and the warning) at least, i can give you that when i get home

mindcrime i have the remaster of, i haven't had issue with it so far but i'm sure the original is better (as is customary with modern day remasters)

Mindcrime never sounded great to begin with, but the remaster is just a lot more harsh and shrill on the ears. Plus I actually plan on EQ'ing Mindcrime myself once I get it and creating an ultimate sounding version.

^^ THANKS! ^^

Mindcrime never sounded great to begin with

well

it's an impressive production and mix considering how much stuff is going on in it, very competently done, but the guitar tone is pretty bad and it gets tiring to listen to, gets a little mid heavy i want to say

it sounds like it was mixed by someone who was great at their job but had little idea of how to mix metal specifically

rage for order sounds better all things considered

i don't want to download this, but jeez, do i have to wait until JUNE for the actual release? what is it with record labels these days

protip: if you're gonna release physical cd's, do it real fucking quickly, like very very immediately after releasing promos

otherwise everyone's going to download your shit and then not buy the cd once it finally comes out several months later

the downside is music "journalists" are going to have to rush reviews out the door but who the hell needs music "journalism" these days anyway

I agree. The mix itself for Mindcrime is fine, it's just that some of the mid-range frequencies are pushed a little too hard. Fortunately, the remastering certainly didn't help this at all and made it even more difficult to listen to. Trust me, you'll see the original press as a blessing in it's ability to allow you to actually listen to the album in it's entirety without getting exhausted. Empire in it's original press was one of the best sounding albums of all time, and it's great to finally have these again. I definitely went through a remaster phase, and I'm not sure what I was thinking.

yo i'm actually excited for the new DT album at this point

they are apparently NOT remaking "character" for the fourth time

Swedish black metallers WATAIN have set "The Wild Hunt" as the title of their new album, due on August 19 in Europe and August 20 in USA via Century Media Records. The CD was once again mixed at the Necromorbus Studio in Alvik, Sweden by Tore Stjerna.

AOTY together with Summoning right here.

October Tide - Tunnel of No Light is a solid doom/death disc. Check it out if you liked their old stuff.
