APOCALYPTICA CONFIRMED FOR BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2009
APOCALYPTICA CONFIRMED AS UK EXCLUSIVE FOR BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2009! The Bloodstock team are pleased to announce that neo-classical symphonicrock group APOCALYPTICA have been added to the bill for BOA as their ONLY UKSHOW in 2009.
Apocalyptica were formed in the early 90s by Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lotjonen,Max Lilja and Antero Manninen, who were all studying cello at the SibeliusAcademy in Helsinki. For fun, they put together a covers band and performedclassically-inspired versions of well-known metal songs at student events.At one such event in 1995, the band were spotted by Kari Hynninen whoimmediately offered to release an album on his label Zen Garden Records.Plays Metallica By Four Cellos, released in 1996, was an instant success,selling over a million copies worldwide.
Inspired by this success, the band issued Inquisition Symphony in 1998, thistime including songs originally by Sepultura, Pantera and Faith No Morealongside a selection of Metallica numbers. Several original compositionsalso appeared and led to the bands eventual move to all-original material.2000s Cult featured ten originals and just three covers and come 2003 andthe release of their fourth album Reflections, cover versions werecompletely absent. Reflections was also notable for the addition of drumsplayed by Slayers Dave Lombardo which took the band in a new, moreexperimental direction later heard on 2005s eponymous effort and their mostrecent outing Worlds Collide. With over three millions album sales to theircredit and almost a thousand live shows performed, Apocalyptica have provedto be one of the most original rock acts of the last decade and perhaps itsmost unlikely success story.
