Official Bloodstock 2009 thread

Anyone care to guess who will get announced next?

Cheers,

i'm interested :D so let me know i know i want to go into an europenanean festival for sure cuz i'm almost bored by our organization! i will only go to evolution festival or gods of metal if will came an interesting band and without iron maiden judas priest or slayer headliner 'cuz i'm really tired to see this bands always as headliner in my country!:heh:
what about the price?

Are katatonia just playing one day? Can you get day tickets?

Thing is I never really get the other acts that end up playing alongside. Always seems like katatonia started about 10 years ahead of these other bands and is now light years ahead.

but of course i'm biased!

Good question...:)

Katatonia will be playing on Friday 14th Aug 2009.
Last year a limited amount of day tickets were available just before the festival (priced at £45 each). I'm not 100% sure that this will be happening this year, but I have put the question through to someone that should be able to answer it soon.

At a complete guess I'd imagine that day tickets will go on sale as more bands get confirmed (subject to compacity/availabilty towards the run up to the festival).
That's just a guess though. Will post back when I get a reply to the question.

Remember: If you are planning to go it may be worth to get your tickets before December 15th, after December 15th the price will increase (I am trying to find out how much by)

DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER CONFIRMED FOR BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2009!
reiter_photo.jpg

The Bloodstock team are pleased to announce that German metallers DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER have been added to the bill for BOA 2009.

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter (Horsemen Of The Apocalypse) were formed in Apolda, Germany in 1995. Although the band’s basic style is rooted in death and thrash metal, they often experiment with other genres and regularly inject humour into their music. Their debut album Soft And Stronger appeared in 1997 on small independent label Ars Metalli, and the band played their first big show at 1998’s Fuck The Commerce Open Air. Their second album Allegro Barbaro followed in 1999 and led to a deal with Hammerheart Records and their first appearance at the legendary Wacken festival.

2000’s All You Need Is Love marked something of a breakthrough and the band subsequently signed with Nuclear Blast for 2003’s Have A Nice Trip and the following year’s Samurai which saw them embark on a major tour with Turisas and perform at numerous summer festivals. It was to be 2006’s Riders On The Storm, however, which really began to boost their profile beyond Germany and a fairly limited European touring circuit. Prolific gigging broke the band in fresh territories and yielded material for their second live DVD Tobsucht before they once again hit the studio to record their latest outing Licht. The band are currently touring the new album throughout Europe.

CANDLEMASS CONFIRMED FOR BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2009!

candlemass-2.jpg

The Bloodstock team are pleased to announce that Swedish doom titans CANDLEMASS have been added to the bill for BOA 2009.

Candlemass were formed in Stockholm in 1985 by bassist and songwriter Leif Edling. The band’s first album Epicus Doomicus Metallicus appeared the following year and immediately established them in underground circles. However, it was to be their second and some say greatest album, 1987’s Nightfall, which would bring them international recognition. Nightfall’s fusion of Black Sabbath-style riffs and epic orchestral atmospheres met with rave reviews worldwide and in vocalist Messiah Marcolin – who took over from Johan Längqvist – Candlemass had a frontman of great presence and a highly memorable voice.

Marcolin fronted the band during their most successful years, departing in 1990 following the release of Ancient Dreams, Tales Of Creation and Live. 1992’s Chapter VI – featuring Thomas Vikström on vocals – was a relative failure and the band split soon afterwards. A version of Candlemass featuring Edling and a series of session musicians recorded Dactylis Glomerata and From The 13th Sun in ’98 and ’99 but although both bore the Candlemass name, the music was only partly in the vein of the band’s signature sound.

The popular 1980s line-up including Messiah Marcolin finally reunited in 2002 for a tour that was so well-received that it resulted in the band releasing a live album and heading into the studio to record 2005’s Candlemass, a full-on return to their original style. Unfortunately, internal tensions once again led to the departure of Marcolin who was replaced by Rob Lowe of US doom metallers Solitude Aeturnus in a surprising but successful move. 2007’s King Of The Grey Islands proved the strength of the latest line-up who have just issued an EP entitled Lucifer Rising. A new full-length album is expected next year.

I hope it's not the only Kata- festival next summer. Anyway, so far it doesn't look bad, seeing Die Apokalyptischen Reiter in front of a foreign audience is usually weird good fun :D and I'd like to give Candlemass another chance to convince me. Let's see who else joins the line up, I'll decide later since there aren't even any flights yet for august 2009.

I hope the band announces a few other dates like one in London

but it says exclusive so i'd better grab a ticket before those fucking cunts raise the price. £85? last year it cost that *after* the prices went up.

SATYRICON CONFIRMED FOR BLOODSTOCK 2009
Satyricon-Aug-2008-1.jpg

The Bloodstock team are pleased to announce that Norwegian Black Metal Band ‘Satyricon’ have been added to the bill for 2009.
Satyricon was formed in 1990 by Czral (Carl-Michael Eide) and Wargod. Haavard (Ulver) soon joined them. Satyr took over lead vocals in 1991.

The band credits their first album, Dark Medieval Times, with starting a black metal subgenre that they dubbed "medieval metal". The album showed off the fascination Satyricon had with the Middle Ages, along with raw black metal blastbeats produced by Frost, mixed with acoustic guitar and flute. On their next album, The Shadowthrone, this medieval spirit was continued. Satyricon’s third album, Nemesis Divina, contains Norwegian black metal influenced by medieval metal and was released in 1996. Rebel Extravaganza, Satyricon’s fourth album, was released in 1999. It contained more industrial metal influences then the previous albums.

Regarding one of their latest albums, Volcano, frontman Satyr stated in a press release / biography on their homepage that "the music is rock based but more extreme; it is black metal pushing the boundaries that began with bands like Venom and Bathory, reinventing ourselves based on a foundation of rock oriented black metal is our philosophy." It resulted in a total of 4 Awards for Volcano being, the Norwegian Grammy for "Best Metal Album", an Alarm award for "Fuel For Hatred" in the category for "Song of the Year", as well as The Alarm Award for "Metal Album of the Year" and The Oslo awards for "Best Overall Album".

SAXON CONFIRMED FOR BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2009!
saxon-1.jpg

The Bloodstock team are delighted to announce that British metal legends SAXON have been added to the bill for BOA 2009.

Saxon were formed in South Yorkshire in 1977 from the ashes of two other local outfits, SOB featuring guitarist Graham Oliver and bassist Steve Dawson, and Coast, featuring vocalist Biff Byford and guitarist Paul Quinn. The band briefly operated under the moniker Son Of A Bitch before renaming themselves Saxon.

The group busied themselves recording demos and playing the club circuit which eventually brought them to the attention of Pete Hinton at EMI who subsequently recommended them to French label Carrere. The band’s self-titled debut album emerged in 1979 at the height of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), a popular grassroots movement which Saxon have been synonymous with ever since. Something of a pot-boiler, the album was a modest success, although it lead to a support slot on Motorhead’s ’79 UK tour, which opened many more doors for the band. The follow up, 1980’s Wheels Of Steel, however, was a monster hit, cracking the UK top five and spawning two chart singles, both of which saw the band appear on Top Of The Pops. It started a phenomenal run of success with Strong Arm Of The Law (1980), Denim And Leather (1981), The Eagle Has Landed (1982), Power And The Glory (1983) and Crusader (1984) all charting worldwide and heralding increasingly extensive headline tours.

1985’s Innocence Is No Excuse introduced a slick new sound disliked by some of the band’s hardcore following, and although the following year’s heavier Rock The Nations redressed the balance again, the band were shaken by the departure of Steve Dawson. Coupled with the shifting musical climate, the change saw Saxon enter a period of uncertainty which was reflected in 1988’s patchy Destiny. Having recruited young bassist Tim 'Nibbs' Carter, the band began a slow fight back with 1990’s weighty Solid Ball Of Rock and ‘92’s Forever Free, but it wasn’t until 1995 and the release of Dogs Of War that a true Saxon revival took hold. Graham Oliver was replaced by Doug Scarrat at this point and since then the band have never looked back. Unleash The Beast (1997), Metalhead (1999), Killing Ground (2001), Lionheart (2004) and The Inner Sanctum (2007) have all stayed true to the classic Saxon sound whilst keeping the band sounding fresh and invigorated. Their latest epic Into The Labyrinth is expected early next year.

As one of the ultimate good-time live acts, Saxon’s return to Bloodstock will get fists pumping and heads banging like no other band can.
